To listen to the Biden administration, the situation with electric vehicles is going swimmingly. People love them. Government subsidies make them more affordable. As a bonus, you get the pride and satisfaction of knowing that you're doing your part to rescue Mother Earth from carbon emissions or whatever. But according to a recent survey from McKinsey and Co. conducted this month, people remain unconvinced, particularly in the United States. They polled EV owners in nine countries and found that 46% of American owners of EVs want to switch back to gas-powered cars with internal combustion engines. There were lower levels of dissatisfaction in some other nations, but nearly half

And this is from the crowd that is highly motivated to own an EV and put up with all its quirks. The average citizens wants to get in the car and go - not fiddle around with finding a charging station that can take hours of your time.

My EV is great for short/middle distances. My ICE is for longer drives and crossing the state. EV can do it but it's not great at it. And no it doesn't take hours to find a charging station. They're all on the gps systems, EV have plenty of real actual things that make them bad for many people; no need to make things up.

EV's have so many disqualifying problems, rational people want nothing to do with them. They cost too much, especially if all you are using them for is local travel. You will need a second car for longer trips. The insurance costs are high. If they are in an accident, the repair costs can be absurd. Because of these and other problems, their value is declining. As more information is captured, the benefit to the environment, the ONLY reason to consider buying one, is falling. Production of EVs is bad for the environment. The use of EVs is only marginally beneficial. The disposal of old batteries? On top of all this, companies are losing massive amounts of money on each EV. If the business model for EVs collapses, it is insane to make them.

@3 - well, it must be nice to afford two cars when for most people, one car that is not an EV is sufficient. As for using GPS to track down charging stations, what good is the GPS if you're in a rural/remote area with few charging stations? And let me remind you (even though you didn't mention it) that it was not the government that built the first gas stations, but the private sector: https://familytreemagazine.com/history/history-of-gas-stations/

Like many other lessons, it is far better to learn from studing the situation before doing something, or to examine what the results are that other people have had before doing something. I'll never own an EV, it was pretty clear to me before hand that they weren't going to work well for my needs. I first drove an EV in 1973, in grad school where we built two different hybrid vehicles and a fellow grad student built his own EV, converting a little SIMCA car. And I drove a Sebring Vanguard at the factory in Sebring, Florida in 1974. What a piece of crap. Are current EVs better than those of 50 years ago? Yes, much better. But still not something I'd ever own, even if it were free. I don't need the aggravation, even if it were free. I've known EVs were unworkable for 50 years from personal contact and study, no need to buy one.

Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes. I guess some have just come to that conclusion. Congratulations! If you have enough dough to splurge on an eccentric toy, go for it. But the first two sentences above still apply. Btw, you buy these "cars" you are NOT helping the environment. I don't give a rat's patootie about CO2 emissions. That subject is a corrupt charade all on it's own. The manufacturing, upkeep, and disposal of EVs is a huge detriment to the environment. Not CO2 emissions.

Some day if I lived long enough (possible but improbable) I might want to purchase an EV. But, it should be my decision and not the government's. Quid Pro Joe is trying to kill ICE vehicles by setting performance criteria that couldn't be met by a perpetual motion machine. Back in the early part of the 20th Century American consumers had to choose between horses, Stanley steamers, and EVs. But then ICE cars came along and the others disappeared. It was a consumer choice and not a government choice. Looks like those days are gone. The government knows what's good for us which also happens to line their pockets.

WASHINGTON — WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange plans to plead guilty to a conspiracy charge this week as part of a plea deal with the U.S. Justice Department that will allow him to go free after spending five years in a British prison, according to court documents. Assange was charged by criminal information — which typically signifies a plea deal — with conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information, the court documents say. A letter from Justice Department official Matthew McKenzie to U.S. District Judge Ramona Manglona of the U.S. District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands said that Assange would appear in court

A violent protest outside a Los Angeles synagogue sparked condemnation from President Biden and others Monday and prompted new debate over what some consider escalating behavior during demonstrations over the war in Gaza. The protest began Sunday afternoon at the Adas Torah synagogue in the heavily Jewish Pico-Robertson neighborhood but eventually spilled into nearby areas over several hours with fights breaking out between pro-Palestinian demonstrators protesting a real estate event and supporters of Israel. Law enforcement sources said more than 150 people converged on the temple on West Pico Boulevard, and it took time for the Los Angeles Police Department to get enough personnel to the scene. Joe Biden’s campaign planned to bury Donald Trump in an avalanche of cash. Instead, his allies are bracing for a slugfest without the benefit of a fatter wallet, as financial reports showed Trump outraising Biden in back-to-back months, hauling in huge sums after his 34 felony convictions and erasing Biden’s longstanding financial edge. Democrats in recent days largely downplayed Trump’s new financial lead in the same way Trump’s allies had when Biden was running ahead in the money race — saying the president would have enough money to compete. But privately, several Democratic strategists and donors were reeling.

Environmental/Social/Governance (ESG) investing is one of the most repellent fads of recent years. Happily, the Telegraph reports that a decisive turning point may have been reached: “How the ‘woke capitalist’ gravy train came to a juddering halt.” First, some history: While the acronym only rose to prominence in the City in the last five years, ESG has been around for far longer. The term was first coined in 2005 in a UN report called “Who Cares Wins”, which argued that companies where bosses behaved ethically would deliver better returns for shareholders. That could be true, although I can’t imagine how you could demonstrate it empirically.

Governor Ron DeSantis’ crackdown on illegal immigrants seems to be paying off in more ways than one, according to a recent report. The governor’s multi-pronged effort to reduce illegal immigration in Florida has resulted in a significant reduction in the number of taxpayer dollars going to fund healthcare for those residing in the country illegally. The governor signed a law last year requiring hospitals that accept Medicaid to ask patients about their legal immigration status when they seek treatment. The legislation does not compel patients to answer the question, but immigrant rights groups argued that it would discourage them from receiving medical attention funded by the government.

For some reason, high-speed rail is a hot-button issue for liberals and a frequent point of criticism from Chinese communist propaganda and Europeans when they attack the U.S. “How can you call yourself a developed country when you don’t have high-speed rail?” they ask. The reality is that high-speed rail would be more expensive and less efficient than our current travel infrastructure. High-speed rail works in Europe and China because of government subsidies, higher taxes, and because people typically travel shorter distances and have fewer travel options. The U.S. has more cars per capita, more highways, more airports, and more railroads than China or the EU. Additionally, Americans prefer to drive

It seems everything in politics is “the end of democracy.” Luntz claimed that personal invectives and insults are too debasing and, apparently, a sign of the end of democracy. Luntz is a pollster, not a historian. Maybe he’s unaware of the long history of politicians insulting each other.
