Trump Plans to Skip First GOP Debate,

Former president Donald Trump plans to skip the first Republican primary debate on Wednesday and will instead sit for an interview with Tucker Carlson. The debate night plan, first reported by the New York Times, was finalized in recent days after Trump spent weeks crowd testing the question with campaign crowds and waffling on the topic in private discussions with advisers. The exact timing of the Tucker Carlson interview is still up in the air, but if the sit-down streams live on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, during the debate time slot, it could simultaneously strike a blow against Fox and diminish Trump’s Republican primary opponents

In my mind, debates should always be one-on-one, otherwise they are a circus. Trump is doing the other guy's a favor by letting them have more time to blather. Everyone knows its Trump and the also-rans. Now the question is: will anyone else show up if Trump is with Tucker? Do they want to look like just one of the sheep following the shepherd.

It'll be interesting to see the viewer numbers for Tucker against those for the debate. I look forward to it.

The other alternatives were...Trump not attend, and claim that he didn't even watch the debates, or...attend and watch them from the audience(much in the way that a belt/title holder might attend a match between future challengers to that belt/title...after all he was a boxing/wrestling promoter and fan) OR...use a podcast/platform to "Fisk" the debates, offering point/counterpoint commentary line by line. Praising some responses, poohpoohing others. The Tucker show will likely end up with MORE viewers than the Debates themselves....if timed right.

To each his own but I pretty much think these debates basically are boring and suck. With that many on stage it is very difficult to really get into the meat of a specific issue when everyone gets 30 seconds and two complete sentences. And a good secondary follow up question is pretty much impossible. I doubt if many will be swayed by what they watch. Trump does not need to score any points and tap dance like the others to get noticed. I feel that instead of learning much it will just be a Trump basher. But I will let others watch and read the articles written and maybe catch a few videos about the event. That is as close to the whole thing as I want to get. I am dreading this coming year and a half of presidential politics.

Trump is missing an opportunity to reach people who may be persuaded to vote for him and instead is appearing in a forum that will attract only his ardent supporters. While Trump is far ahead in the nomination process he will lose big in the general if he doesn’t attract voters beyond his core base. In addition he will be unable to coherently criticize Biden when Biden refuses to debate him. Bad move.

At least with Carlson there might be a miniscule chance that Trump's answers will not be edited, twisted, redacted and taken out of context.

These are not real debates anymore. These true dog and pony shows are mechanisms to raise money for the party, give MSM something to talk about, pollsters something to poll about and get FOX NEWS some viewers ! The old one on one debates with real substantive questions were useful. These are not true tough debates where the knowledge of the candidate is challenged and they are forced off the talking points. BTW, nobody believes anymore that the preferred establishment’s man isn’t given a heads up on the questions.

Russia's unmanned Luna-25 spacecraft has crashed into the Moon after spinning out of control, officials say. It was Russia's first Moon mission in almost 50 years. The craft was due to be the first ever to land on the Moon's south pole, but failed after encountering problems as it moved into its pre-landing orbit. It was set to explore a part of the Moon which scientists think could hold frozen water and precious elements. Roscosmos, Russia's state space corporation, said on Sunday morning that it had lost contact with the Luna-25 shortly after 14:57pm (11:57 GMT)

With David Weiss' promotion to special counsel, the future of the Hunter Biden probe appears unclear. Charges have been officially dropped in Delaware as part of a stated plan to charge the president's son in another jurisdiction. That begs the question of why the charges were ever in Delaware in the first place if they supposedly don't belong there now. If it feels like the DOJ is hoping to draw a less-skeptical judge to rubber stamp yet another sweetheart plea deal, that's probably because that's what appears to be happening. A recent leak revealed that while the FBI believes it has evidence to charge Hunter Biden with FARA

The Biden campaign plans to highlight what it's calling an "extreme MAGA blueprint" by GOP candidates during the first Republican presidential debate, according to a memo first shared with NBC News. The memo, written by campaign communications director Michael Tyler, lays out five criticisms of the GOP field, including Republicans' views on cutting Social Security and Medicare, lowering taxes for the rich, banning abortion, protecting the gun lobby and undermining democracy, which focuses on election deniers. "The 2024 Republicans are focusing on litigating the benefits of slavery, which books they want to ban from schools, and a made-up war on 'woke' that they themselves can’t even define," the memo said.

District Judge Maryellen Noreika has dismissed two outstanding misdemeanor tax charges against Hunter Biden following a request from federal prosecutors, setting the stage for additional charges from newly appointed special counsel David Weiss. Under the terms of an initial plea deal that later collapsed, Hunter was to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax violations and submit to a pre-trial diversion agreement to avoid a felony gun charge in exchange for broad immunity from future charges. Noreika challenged the terms of the deal in court last month, noting that the broad immunity prosecutors offered Hunter was unprecedented.

For entertainment, sure, but also as cautionary fables about the power of good vs evil, the honor of virtue, and to explain the odd bump in the night.
