With David Weiss' promotion to special counsel, the future of the Hunter Biden probe appears unclear. Charges have been officially dropped in Delaware as part of a stated plan to charge the president's son in another jurisdiction.
That begs the question of why the charges were ever in Delaware in the first place if they supposedly don't belong there now. If it feels like the DOJ is hoping to draw a less-skeptical judge to rubber stamp yet another sweetheart plea deal, that's probably because that's what appears to be happening. A recent leak revealed that while the FBI believes it has evidence to charge Hunter Biden with FARA

The Biden campaign plans to highlight what it's calling an "extreme MAGA blueprint" by GOP candidates during the first Republican presidential debate, according to a memo first shared with NBC News.
The memo, written by campaign communications director Michael Tyler, lays out five criticisms of the GOP field, including Republicans' views on cutting Social Security and Medicare, lowering taxes for the rich, banning abortion, protecting the gun lobby and undermining democracy, which focuses on election deniers.
"The 2024 Republicans are focusing on litigating the benefits of slavery, which books they want to ban from schools, and a made-up war on 'woke' that they themselves can’t even define," the memo said.

SARASOTA, Fla. — Ron Filipkowski sat at a table in the Sarasota courthouse waiting for the judge to call his client’s name, when the urge to pull out his cell phone finally overcame him.
The docket was stacked that day and he had time to kill. So, he did what he often does: checked X, formerly Twitter. His eyes began to scan. His fingers moved into place. Filipkowski saw that former Vice President Mike Pence had turned down an invitation to appear at a Georgia GOP convention where Donald Trump was slated to appear as the keynote speaker. He dashed off his take.

Former president Donald Trump plans to skip the first Republican primary debate on Wednesday and will instead sit for an interview with Tucker Carlson.
The debate night plan, first reported by the New York Times, was finalized in recent days after Trump spent weeks crowd testing the question with campaign crowds and waffling on the topic in private discussions with advisers.
The exact timing of the Tucker Carlson interview is still up in the air, but if the sit-down streams live on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, during the debate time slot, it could simultaneously strike a blow against Fox and diminish Trump’s Republican primary opponents

District Judge Maryellen Noreika has dismissed two outstanding misdemeanor tax charges against Hunter Biden following a request from federal prosecutors, setting the stage for additional charges from newly appointed special counsel David Weiss.
Under the terms of an initial plea deal that later collapsed, Hunter was to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax violations and submit to a pre-trial diversion agreement to avoid a felony gun charge in exchange for broad immunity from future charges.
Noreika challenged the terms of the deal in court last month, noting that the broad immunity prosecutors offered Hunter was unprecedented.

Former Attorney General Bill Barr said Thursday on FNC’s “Your World” that he would jump off that bridge when he gets to while being pressed on voting for former President Donald Trump should he be the 2024 Republican presidential nominee.
Barr said, “I think there are a lot of Republican voters who have a problem. And when they’re actually confronted with, they’re grateful for Trump as they should be for a lot of the good things he did, but I think when push comes to shove, and they’re thinking about how to make America great again, anger and, you know, will give way to reason and they will see that.”

Former President Donald Trump's indictment by a grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia (In Midnight Presser, Fulton DA Fani Willis Calls Trump's Election Integrity Team a 'Criminal Enterprise') brings to 91 the number of criminal charges he faces in four separate jurisdictions. Even though the former president is arguably more popular than the current resident of the Oval Office, he's tied with Biden in general election polling, and he's the clear frontrunner for the Republican nomination; see NEW: Quinnipiac Poll Shows Trump Holding Massive Lead Ahead of the Pack—Including DeSantis.

Former President Donald Trump's press conference previously scheduled for Monday regarding Georgia's 2020 election results -- in which he was expected to provide more unproven claims about voter fraud -- is now canceled.
Trump posted on his Truth Social platform Thursday that the press conference was canceled because his lawyers would prefer putting his allegations "in formal Legal Filings." His campaign subsequently confirmed that the event has been called off. Trump had scheduled the press conference after he and 18 others were charged in a sweeping racketeering indictment for alleged efforts to overturn

Growing up, being a princess used to be something to look forward to for some girls. Who wouldn’t want the beautiful dress, the schweet crib, often times furry animal friends, or small human ones. Magic, wands, witches, ogres, gnomes sprites, and fairies. Even before the advent of video, fairy tales were there for a reason. For entertainment, sure, but also as cautionary fables about the power of good vs evil, the honor of virtue, and to explain the odd bump in the night.
Now, to be honest, the fairy tales of the 20th Century are much more accessible, heartwarming, and nowhere near as terrifying as those told to Victorian children,

Members of the Fulton County grand jury that voted to indict former President Donald Trump on Monday are facing threats after their personal information was shared online, authorities said Thursday.
"The Fulton County Sheriff's Office is aware that personal information of members of the Fulton County Grand Jury is being shared on various platforms," the sheriff's office said in a statement Thursday. A Texas woman is behind bars after allegedly threatening to kill U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan – the federal judge overseeing Special Counsel Jack Smith's 2020 election conspiracy case against former President Donald Trump – and U.S. Rep. Hurricane Hilary is rapidly intensifying in the Pacific Ocean southwest of Mexico on Thursday and is on track to deliver potentially significant rain and flooding to parts of the Southwest as a weaker system starting this weekend.
Hilary is forecast to grow into a major hurricane later today and could reach Category 4 hurricane strength with winds of at least 130 mph, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center warned.
The hurricane was about 550 miles south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Thursday morning, whipping up maximum sustained winds of 85 mph. There remains a wide range of outcomes for the heaviest rain and strongest winds in the US
