A requirement that voters present a valid photo ID when they show up at the polls is unfortunately working exactly as the Republicans who passed it last year intended. The Lorain County Board of Elections on Wednesday discarded the provisional ballots of 160 voters because 39 didn’t have a photo ID and 121 had expired IDs when they showed up to vote in the special election Aug. 8. “That makes me very uncomfortable,” Democratic board member Anthony Giardini said. “These people weren’t cheating.” (Snip) The board’s other Democratic member, Inez James, called it “voter suppression.”

FTA Snippets:
The demand for photo IDs at the polls is part of the right’s ongoing freak-out about voter fraud, which is vanishingly rare in Ohio and beyond, whatever former President Donald Trump and his acolytes might claim. (Losing an election, as Trump did in 2020, is not proof of fraud.)
(Snip)
Election board Director Paul Adams, a Democrat, told us ... were rejected ... included Democrats, Republicans and independents.
He also told us that the voters whose ballots were rejected because of ID problems varied widely in age. Some might not have gotten around to getting a driver’s license or might have lacked a U.S. passport. Others might no longer drive and might have neglected to get a state ID to replace their expired license. Perhaps they simply hadn’t had the time to swing by an Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles office to get the proper ID.
None of which means their votes shouldn’t count.
The elections board members intended to draft a letter to Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, who oversees elections and supports photo ID requirements, expressing their bipartisan concerns.
(Snip)
The elections board has correctly identified a big problem with the state’s new voter ID law, but sadly the members probably shouldn’t count on LaRose or Republican lawmakers to fix it.
Making it harder to vote was the whole point.

Typical Dim fact twisting. The purpose of Voter ID is to make sure that the people who vote are the people entitled to vote. Not someone else or someone voting in the name of a "registered voter" who doesn't exist, etc. In other words, to limit Demonrat vote fraud.

We have photo id voting here in Florida. We even have to show a voters registration card issued by the state with our name and political affiliation on it. No one seems to grumble and no one complains.
Leftists are such whiny babies.

I am well over age 21, but my grocery store requires me to show my photo ID to buy a bottle of wine. I had to show my photo ID to get a library card.

I bet those supposed voters all had phones for which a photo ID was required. If voting is important to you, you make it your business get an ID.

You have to show ID for almost everything these days, so what is the problem? When we lived in AZ we had to show ID and also here in Iowa. I would much rather have to prove who I am than have someone else take my name and vote.

Quite the contrary. Wandering in without a valid id is a valid reason for rejecting a ballot. How could a sentient voter not know that a valid id is now required? How many drove to the voting booth?

"The other 142 provisional ballots were rejected for other reasons, including 101 that were submitted by people who weren’t registered to vote in Ohio. Unregistered people accounted for around 33.4 percent of the rejections."
without an ID requirement THOSE people would have voted as well...
EVERYONE in the State was BOMBARDED with advertising(TV/Radio/Newspapers/Internet...adverts even popping up on THIS site), targeted voters registration calls, petitions, people accosting you on the street and in stores...Dems had people PAID to pick up anyone needing a ride and carrying them to get ID's, register to vote, cast ballots, fill out absentee applications, hand delivering them to anyone who asked, hand delivering ballots to anyone that had applied, helping them fill them out and then handle delivering them to election clerks/polling places...how many of the people rejected in the fairly small city of Lorain had been driven to those polling places by Dem operatives? (Lorain is a chithole town, put out of business by shipping it's industry out of the USA...by Democrats)

160 illegal votes is a start. I suspect many didn't even try to cast an illegal vote because of the law.

Strange. I have had to present a photo ID in 4 states since the Ford Administration and never once had an issue. Oh, I see now. These were provisional ballots where the 'voter' couldn't prove who they were. Yes, yes I now see how that could present a problem for Democrat candidates.

Let's see. The law requires that each voter show a valid ID yet this ridiculous paper, after listing reasons the disqualified didn't have ID, writes that "None of which means their votes shouldn't count." How about that they didn't have valid ID's as the law requires? Even more discouraging was the comment by Board President Marilyn Jacobcik (R) agreeing with the complaining Democrats.

Democratic board member Anthony Giardini said. “These people weren’t cheating.”
How do we know, since they could not prove who they were ?
And, as I recall, the Chronicle-Telegram newspaper was all in for bankrupting Gibson's Bakery.

If someone wants to vote and follows the rules there will not be a problem.
But it should be obvious the Democrats don’t believe in following the rules. So they have a problem.

No ID, NO VOTE, PERIOD. Mail In Ballots go in the Dumpster! Voting Machines get the cattle prod treatment. Crooked Poll workers (Democraps) GO TO PRISON! Politicians that set this all up get the DEATH PENALTY! Did I miss anything?

If they can get rid of or not REQUIRE an ID to vote that verifies that the person holding the ID is a documented CITIZEN who can vote, they can take over the Republic--
WHY do you think they are flooding the country with ILLEGAL ALIEN refugees???
All they need is to nulify requirements to prove American Citizenship!
It's all part of the plan the demonrat socialist Marxists have been playing for decades-- the long game and all its many moving parts coming together when we no longer have election laws being enforced

1. Saying voter fraud is rare because so few are convicted is like saying speeding while driving is rare because so few get a ticket for it.
2. They’re comparing the requirement for photo voter ID to the requirement for any kind of ID, but they don’t say how many were rejected for not having any kind of ID.
3. How do they know they weren’t cheating? Did they later confirm their identity or are they just assuming?

The newspaper’s editorial board is of the belief that none of the reasons cited by the Election Board Director (currently a Democrat) means the votes should not have been counted; further, that the big problem with the state’s new voter identification is that the law makes it hard to vote—which, the newspaper contends, is the whole point.
