A smart gun developed by Biofire will soon start shipping to customers that pre-ordered the firearm. The Biofire Smart Gun features built-in fingerprint and infrared facial recognition technology that only permits use by "authorized" individuals, according to the company.
Biofire has called it the "first and only biometric firearm on the market."
The gun is a full-sized 9mm, striker-fired semiautomatic pistol. It features magazine sizes of 10 and a double-stacked 15-round magazine. It has a 4.7-inch barrel and a total of 8.7 inches in length. The total weight of the gun, unloaded, is 2.4 pounds.

Require Biden’s Secret Service agents and FBI agents to carry these “smart guns.”

And when it won't read your fingerprint, what then? Use it as a club?

My smart phone has facial and fingerprint recognition. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it does not.
If I ever have to use a gun in self-defense, I want it to work.

And your trustworthy government will be able to turn it off at will, so what good is it?

The next step is to have fingerprint ID for your target so they can consent to a gunfight. Um, excuse me, I cannot defend myself unless you consent to being a target. Oh, thank you I appreciate your cooperation.

Not this again. I suppose this one is solar powered -- instead of a front sight, it has a teeny tiny wind turbine that only kills hummingbirds.

Who will perform the authorization and where will that database be stored? And what is the response time between pulling the trigger and the go-nogo decision?

The more links you put in a chain, the more likely it is to get a weak one. I'll stick with my dumb revolver thanks.

Told the Lady Chihuahua about this. Could a gun with recognition technology be used in a training exercise? I just want to know how easy (or hard) to reprogram one.

I would never trust my life to a smart gun.
It's the same principle as calling 911, only or having a gun handy. "When seconds count, police are only minutes, away..." The time it takes for your gun to 'recognize' you are an authorized user, will get you killed.
I can't use fingerprint recognition for time clocks, because my fingertips are too smooth. (I work with my hands, a lot) I have to punch in an over-ride, which is a pain.
I want a gun, I can use, immediately, or if I select a different gun due to the threat, I can pass my principle gun to my spouse or one of my kids as backup, in case I fall. Try to do that with a 'Smart Gun'!!

Network servers will be used for the "smart" checks, meaning the guns will be remotely hackable by trouble makers, and the government will be able to disable any gun (effectively allowing the 2nd Amendment to be arbitrarily disabled, like the 'kill switch' in our new cars. Further Sovietization of the United States, full speed ahead...

Good thing they never had smart guns at the OK Corral dustup.
Wyatt: Hey gun, unlock now!
Gun:: I'm sorry, Wyatt. I'm afraid I can't do that. ...I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
