Iowa survives UConn's late-game push to
reach NCAA title game

The UConn Huskies gave Caitlin Clark fits in the Final Four, but that didn’t matter as the Iowa Hawkeyes are heading to the national title game again after a 71-69 win. The Huskies' Nika Mühl made it a one-point game after UConn forced a steal on Iowa, and they would get a chance to take the lead with just seconds left on the clock after forcing a Hawkeyes turnover. However, UConn's Aaliyah Edwards was called for a moving screen on Gabbie Marshall as Huskies star Paige Bueckers was trying to run around to get the ball for the potential game-winning shot.

Comments:

Coach Auriemma was livid. ESPN disagreed with the foul called on Aaliyah Edwards. Former UConn players griped in post-game interviews. Replays show Edwards used her arms in a football blocking motion. Edwards did more than move “ever so slightly.”

Why are all these girls playing anyway? Fill your team with men cosplaying as women and just sweep the league. It's very fashionable these days to put a male ringer on a female team. Just go all the way. Support women with all male teams! Yay! /s

Ahhh, love all the talking heads. Womens' college basketball is far and away more interesting than the NBA, or even mens college games. Dunking has ruined the game. Still, a team that plays like a team...even lacking physical attributes if the cerebral is there, can take it all. Iowa will always be denigrated because of racial makeup. Even the former Celtic's Paul Pierce recently said (speaking of Caityn's 41 point against LSU), "Clark gave them a spanking...and this is not suppose to happen to black girls." But what has struck me (because I haven't watched womens' college basketball before this year) is the number of gals who are mixed-race. I guess something has happened in the last 10-20 years...and I missed it. Will they still get reparations? Hmmm. Sarcasm off.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said a boat carrying 25 Haitians was stopped off Florida's coast as law enforcement resouces have been deployed to stop possible migrants coming from the island nation that's experiencing a spike in violence and turmoil. DeSantis made the announcement at a news conference in Polk County Friday where he signed three pieces of legislation that he said are aimed at deterring illegal immigration. According to DeSantis Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers within the past couple weeks stopped the vessel near Sebastain Inlet that was carrying 25 people from Haiti.

Former Major League Baseball slugger Steve Garvey has moved ahead of U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff in California’s U.S. Senate primary – a significant feat despite the November runoff having already been determined. As of Wednesday morning, Garvey led Schiff by an incredibly slim margin of just 4,801 votes with more than 5 million votes tallied, about 85% of expected returns. Schiff, one of the leading Democrats in the U.S. House, will face Garvey, a Republican, in November to determine who succeeds the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Gun Owners Of America came out swinging against Senator John Cornyn, R-TX, after he entered the race to succeed Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. In a statement to Fox News Digital, Aidan Johnston, Gun Owners Of America’s (GOA) Federal Affairs Director, said Cornyn has failed to stand firm on conservative values and has instead, compromised with Democrats on gun control bills. "Every time gun control gains steam in Congress, Senator John Cornyn is right there working with Democrats on a 'compromise.' That isn't conservative leadership, it's capitulation!," Johnston said.

Conservatives called out the Associated Press on Sunday for appearing to categorize Laken Riley’s murder as more about the "fears of solo female athletes" rather than illegal immigration and weak crime laws. Riley, an Augusta University nursing student, was found dead Thursday after previously attending the University of Georgia before entering a nursing program at Augusta's Athens campus, where she made the Dean's List. Police have charged Jose Antonio Ibarra with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call and concealing the death of another.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen sidestepped questions about whether her department ordered surveillance of consumer purchases and transactions. Yellen was asked Tuesday during a hearing whether the Treasury Department instructed financial institutions to monitor legal purchases for signs of "extremism," as claimed in a House Judiciary Committee letter last month. "Has Treasury — including FinCEN or federal banking agencies like the Fed, FDIC, OCC — instructed financial institutions to search Americans' legal transactions in attempts to surveil their purchases?" Republican Missouri Rep. Ann Wagner asked Yellen. “Well, we received the letter from you, I believe, on this topic, and we intend to investigate and to respond," Yellen responded.

One of the things that frustrated me about Trump’s (first?) term was his seeming complete indifference to #TheResistance that manifested before he even took office. Unelected bureaucrats working in the ridiculously invasive executive branch’s many agencies, publicly declared war on him, and he . . . well, he did nothing. Until the final year of his presidency when he seemed to finally take aim at the problem in his own branch of government–we can call it the deep state, the resistance, the entrenched bureaucrats who oversee far too much policy in America and who are, apparently, answerable to no one. Not the voter, not the president. So then-president Trump launched
