Former Major League Baseball slugger Steve Garvey has moved ahead of U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff in California’s U.S. Senate primary – a significant feat despite the November runoff having already been determined. As of Wednesday morning, Garvey led Schiff by an incredibly slim margin of just 4,801 votes with more than 5 million votes tallied, about 85% of expected returns. Schiff, one of the leading Democrats in the U.S. House, will face Garvey, a Republican, in November to determine who succeeds the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said a boat carrying 25 Haitians was stopped off Florida's coast as law enforcement resouces have been deployed to stop possible migrants coming from the island nation that's experiencing a spike in violence and turmoil.
DeSantis made the announcement at a news conference in Polk County Friday where he signed three pieces of legislation that he said are aimed at deterring illegal immigration.
According to DeSantis Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers within the past couple weeks stopped the vessel near Sebastain Inlet that was carrying 25 people from Haiti.

Indiana Republican Sen. Todd Young told the media on Friday, days after former President Trump’s commanding Super Tuesday performance, that he will not be endorsing the former president. "Nothing's changed from my standpoint," Young told CNN after WWEV 44 News reported that Young will not support Trump due to the former president’s position and comments on Russia’s war in Ukraine.
"I trust the people I represent to make their own decisions on who they’re going to vote for."
The outlet reported that Young has not decided who he will support in November.
Gun Owners Of America came out swinging against Senator John Cornyn, R-TX, after he entered the race to succeed Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. An undocumented Venezuelan man living in Athens, Georgia — who is the brother of a suspect accused of killing on the University of Georgia campus —— was charged Friday night with possessing a fraudulent green card, according to officials. Burnsville, Minn. — Just over a day after a shooting claimed the lives of three first responders in Burnsville, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has confirmed the name of the man behind the deadly shooting. Shannon Gooden, 38, died after opening fire on those first responders. A medical examiner's report said he died by suicide.

Two minors have been charged with gun-related offenses in connection to the Kansas City mass shooting earlier this week. The 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri announced the charges in a statement on Friday. Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun is stepping down at the end of 2024 as the aerospace giant grapples with fallout stemming from the 737 Max crisis.
