The "Rust" armorer who last month was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the deadly shooting of Halyna Hutchins, the film's cinematographer, was sentenced in a New Mexico state court today to 18 months' imprisonment. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed received the maximum penalty for her part in the 2021 tragedy that several experts have since characterized as a preventable incident, where actor Alec Baldwin discharged live rounds from a prop gun on the movie set during a rehearsal.

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer handed down the sentence to conclude an emotionally charged hearing Monday.
"I find what you did constitutes a serious violent offense," Sommer told Gutierrez-Reed.
Will Alec Baldwin be convicted and told that and more since he failed to be the final check before pulling the trigger?
I have my doubts.

This girl is going to be hung with the whole thing. It will follow her everywhere she goes for the rest of her life. She's taking the fall for extremely lax management of the production of that "motion picture". The producer of that farce, who also happens to be the shooter, is going to walk away from this, in the eyes of the law at least. Money talks, money walks. Alex and Hilaria will be home free.
The millions of us who are serious gunners are sickened by this travesty. Was the girl wrong? You betcha. But the boss/shooter was wronger by far. He created the environment where this could happen...then made it happen.

Her job requires being responsible, as in 'The bullet (buck) stops here.' Baldwin being the triggerman also bears responsibility. He pulled the trigger wrongfully assuming someone else did their job. Had he exercised HIS responsibility it would not have mattered if she hadn't done hers.

Baldwin was handed the gun! At that point it was his responsibility to check to see if the gun was loaded! It was also his job to not point the weapon at anything he wasn’t willing to destroy! He not only failed twice but then he pulled the trigger??? 18 years for Baldwin with no possibility of early release! I’m sure the very large checks to the judge have been cashed, however!

What about the very arrogant, short fused idiot that pointed and pulled the trigger?

A fine lady is dead, and her small kids will never see their mother again.
This is the result of arrogance, lack of respect for firearms, and a lackadaisical attitude in handling -checking the gun and the ammunition- the gun that discharged, killing the lady.
I say that this 'armorer' twit and this 'movie star [backside orifice] should be free to walk this earth on the day -and not one minute before- those kid's mom is again walking the earth and holding her children in her arms.

The punishment doesn't stop with the 18 months. As a convicted felon she will not be allowed to own or handle firearms. Plus she can't vote. And will have trouble finding a job.

I have to believe that this helps Baldwin - not saying he will walk away scot-free, but the person with the primary responsibility for the gun just got convicted.

Re#12: No, no, no! A thousand times NO! “The person with the primary responsibility for the gun” is the person holding it. Period. Full stop. Anyone who responsibly handles firearms KNOWS this. Never accept a firearm from anyone unless you have watched them clear the weapon before handing it to you. Never hand a firearm to anyone unless you have personally cleared it. This is basic stuff, people.

Always abiding by Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Cooper's Four Rules of Gun Safety* eliminates accidents. In fact, I would go so far as to say that anyone who does not always obey these rules should never handle guns at any time. These rules are ironclad. Alec Baldwin pointed a weapon at another human being (two, actually) and pulled the trigger. Yes, the armorer who somehow allowed a live round into that Old Western revolver made a unforgivable mistake. But if Baldwin had not pointed the weapon at two people and pulled the trigger, this tragedy would never have happened. "Alex" Baldwin managed to break all four rules of gun safety. He's at least as responsible as the armorer.
*Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper's Four Rules of Gun Safety
1. All guns are always loaded.
2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

The people who should really slammed in court for the death of Hutchins are the film producers who hired the apparently incompetent Gutierrez-Reed, who apparently could not tell the difference between blanks and live rounds, to hold the critical position of armorer, responsible for the handling and loading of firearms during the filming of that movie.
