New York City has issued a health alert over the rise of rat-borne disease. Cases of leptospirosis among people soared to its highest level in 2023, which is spread through contact with rat urine or feces. In 2023 there were 24 cases reported in the city, which is eight times higher than total cases in the previous two decades.So far in 2024, there have been six cases. 'Not only are rodents unsightly and can traumatize your day, but they're a real health-related crises,' said Mayor Eric Adams.

A 12-person jury has been selected and sworn in to serve on former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial after three days.
On Thursday, prosecutors and the defense team agreed on 12 jurors-- and an alternative-- who would be able to remain impartial during the trial in which Manhattan District Attorney General Alvin Bragg alleges that Trump made payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election. The jurors will include seven men and five women who were chosen after answering extensive questions regarding their personal lives, political views, social media posts, and the ability to remain unbiased

Of those 48 who were excused because they could not be fair and impartial, 23 were men and 25 were women. Roughly 15 appeared to be non-white, according to reports from the courtroom. That meant that half of the potential 96 jurors brought in said they could not be fair and impartial jurors in the case, which is almost the same number who said they could not be fair and impartial on Monday

A North Carolina high school student was charged after he allegedly slapped his teacher multiple times during a viral profanity-laced classroom rant earlier this week.
The rage-filled youngster, identified only as a minor, confronted the educator inside Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, where he violently attacked her, according to video posted to social media.
After the initial impact, the teacher seemed unfazed by the slap as the student continued to run his mouth.

Both articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas were deemed unconstitutional by the Senate on Wednesday in a party-line vote.
