Former attorney to Donald Trump, John Eastman, alleged that both Bank of America and USAA have debanked him, closing his accounts in the aftermath of his involvement in advising Trump around the 2020 election.
According to an exclusive report by the Daily Caller, in September 2023, Bank of America sent a letter to Eastman informing him of the closure of his bank accounts. Following this, USAA, two months later, notified Eastman of the closure of his accounts with the company. USAA cited its Depository Agreement as the basis for its decision, citing its right to ”no longer do banking business” with customers.

Again, a case for doing business (at least checking and savings/money market accounts) with the smaller, independent banks. Yes, there aren't as many as there used to be, but I'd never have a checking account with the nationwide banking chains.

Surprised to hear this about USAA, where I have been a member for more than 60 years.

USAA has been a most reliable organization, comprised of present and former military service people, and extended to their immediate families. As a customer for some 55 years, expulsion of someone for merely supporting Donald Trump is a real kick in the butt to my regard for the company.

I just read elsewhere that John Kerry sat on the board at Bank of America as their Global Advisory Council, where he earned $5 million a year before he was appointed the climate czar by Joe Biden.

TO ALL THAT HAVE USAA ACCOUNTS.
USAA must hear us loud and clear. Cash out of your USAA subscriber savings accounts. It is simple. Just close all of your insurance and other accounts. Within 6 months you will get a check in the mail. It is in the bylaws. I did and got a check for over 6k. Besides ITS YOUR Money. Why let a probate judge decide who spends it. Since you are a member for life the option to open an account in the future will always be available.

I’ve been USAA since the Army. Not what it used to be. Now just another big corp.

Living near SA, USAA is a major employer and was a community leader under folks like Gen McDermott. Now, it's just a bunch of bean counters and marketing hustlers. Lots of empty office space up on Fredericksburg Road now a days.

Joined USAA in 1973. This makes me sad all over because John Eastman deserves better. Lawyers represent clients regardless of guilt or innocence. Obviously the current retired flag officer in charge and his employees no longer offer any support for traditional American values. I shall evaluate my options when it's renewal time.

ps--agree with number 8, as well. 'bean counters and marketing hustlers' are the good side.

Great idea number 6! I have not been impressed with USAA for quite a while, so I just cashed out my subscriber savings account to the tune of almost 6 grand. Take that USAA. I love my small bank. Oh, their insurance is also crap.

We used to be with a well-known bank but during the last term of Barack Obama, we refinanced our mortgage. There was a clause in the paperwork we had to sign about the terms if the business or business name should be renamed or sold. Low and behold, a little time later we are informed that our mortgage is being sold to Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae. We had told them during the interview we absolutely did want that type of mortgage. Packed up all of finances and moved over to a credit union. Best thing we could have done. . .

Oops. We told them we absolutely did not want a Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae loan. Their excuse: when we signed the paperwork, it gave them authority to resell. . .

I had a wonderful relationship with a credit union. I suggest that as an alternative bank. The fact that USAA will not disclose the reasons for dropping Eastman, shows that they have no good reason.

I have been a member of USAA since I was a midshipman when the only servicemembers who could join were officers or midshipman. Service was excellent back then (late 1980 - through early 2000) but then they opened up their membership (around 1998) to the enlisted ranks and the quality of service has seriously degraded. Now, when you have a claim - it's all emails and VMs and no one employed by USAA seems to have a last name. How unprofessional is that - it's juts: Hi, this is Dionne or Lashawna and no direct phone number.
But they supposedly know what it means to serve - only if it's the correct political masters.

I've been with USAAA for 20 years after leaving Navy Federal from being screwed over dealing with an auto loan. This is not good news to hear about them. While stationed in the Bay Area of CA in the early 90s I was a member of Wells Fargo which wound up having the same worthless reputation as Bank of America which was right next door to them downtown in Oakland. My fellow posters are right USAA isn't what it used to be.

As a client for 61 years this bothers me and makes me wonder whether USAA has gone over to the dark side.
