Over the weekend I spent a good part of one day helping a friend do some work in his garage. At one point we realized we needed a small adapter for his socket set and a few other small items so we made a run to the hardware store.
Until recently there had been an Ace hardware just a couple miles from his house but earlier this year that store closed. Usually, stores don’t announce why they are closing but my friend said he believed they were having problems with retail theft.
We wound up driving a couple extra miles to the next closest Ace hardware

The Walmart I go to has a lot of the shaving supplies under lock and key. They also have some brands of hair and makeup as well as condoms. They have all the electronics under lock and key too. And this is in a medium sized town.

A valiant, but doomed to fail, effort. Save the hassle and close now, the hoodies can take a bus for miles and miles and do their thieving there…

Giant should cut their losses and close the Ward 8 store. Take the money currently poured into operations at this store and invest in security at their other WDC outlets.

I live in a small town in California. This town was puppies and rainbows during the Trump years, Republican run with clean streets, well maintained parks, few homeless types and a balanced budget. Even cloth basketball nets were replaced as needed. Drinking fountains worked. Stores were open and locked cabinets a rarity. Then closet Democrat candidates lied and cheated their way onto the city council. The results in the past three years? Corruption with big developers handing out cash for zoning changes. Councilmen via shell companies reaping huge commissions on land sales...after zoning changes. Homeless types are now a common sight. Drug paraphernalia is on sidewalks, there are security guards and locked cabinets are in larger stores, and now calls for new taxes. Want to work for the city? Don't be a white person. Complain about conditions at council meetings, paid activists in the audience point and shout racial slogans. Two councilmen smirk and others pretend to be preoccupied with aides, microphones off. You see and hear of stuff just like this all over the country.

"Last ditch effort" is hot flying lead. I don't see that happening yet. Racial profiling would also be effective, "if you are black don't come back." Harsh but it would stop 99% of the shoplifting. Other than that, park a police van at the only entrance/exit. If your sales receipt does not show every item in your possession, you get a ride in the van to explain why. Or, just close the store and make the thieves walk elsewhere for their groceries.

An Ace Hardware in our area also suddenly had theft problems. The worst was a stolen vehicle used to ram through the glass doors in the middle of the night. They mostly stole chainsaws, electric drills, and a big 'green egg' grill. The thieves are on a rampage.

Seems to me that the Rodney King riot Korean shopkeeper solution is the one to go with. Position someone with a rifle on the roof of the store. Pick off the looters as they try to get away. The theft will stop pretty quickly.

As the stores close in the ‘hood, the rioters will move to the tony suburbs for their necessities.

There are 2 classes of thieves: unarmed and armed.
Security TAZES those who steal but are unarmed.
They wake up in MEXICO. They are unlikely to steal again.
Armed thieves are simply SHOT…they don’t wake up.

The stupid voters keep electing leftists, who will be pushing government "solutions" to coerce retailers into the theft magnet ghettos or pay them a taxpayer subsidy to cover their "reparations" losses. The leftist-dominated media will cry, "Genocide," if the wealth transfer is opposed. All part of the plan, and so far, unopposed.

Locals shoplift a business.
Business tries to stop it and gets fined by the city.
Shoplifting continues.
Business closes.
Locals accuse them of racism.

Retail thieves, mostly unpunished in blue cities, will force businesses out of these areas, and locals won't have anywhere to shop.
