Economic success must have a price and a global tax on carbon emissions can help redress Africa’s chronically low Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rates, Kenya’s President William Ruto declared Tuesday as the first Africa Climate Summit began.
He pointed to “climate change” driven by successful, dynamic economies in Europe, North America and Asia, as a drain on Africa’s economic progress and it’s time to have a global conversation about a carbon tax on the world’s richest nations.
“Those who produce the garbage refuse to pay their bills,” Ruto said, according to AP, echoing others who have also called for carbon tax impositions

Giving cash to African nations is like giving whiskey to alcoholics. Africa is energy infrastructure poor. What they need is investment in energy production to feed their economies. African nations would be much better off no listening to those grifters.

Why don't we just announce how much we want to give to African nations for a carbon tax and then just burn the money. The end result would be the same...nothing would change.

Time and time again has shown that wealth transfer weakens both parties.

What could go wrong? Might eliminate all those Nigerian prince scams, though.

Good grief, the place was a dirt pit enclosing some jungle, centuries before any purported manmade global warming climate change chaos. This amounts to an opportunistic shakedown, which I guess is basically what the whole Paris Accord was designed to be. Global communism, wealth redistribution, and a spirit of blame. Great reset, myazz.

Tell you what-when Africa ends slavery ( now practiced exclusively in non-white African nations) we'll see about this.

It'd be more effective to instead put a "Slacker Tax" on all African nations for taking away all the productive farms from white farmers, running them down, and then lying around banging on de drum all day. Day-o...isay day-o...

100 years from now Africa will still be known for poverty, crumbling infrastructure and weird diseases. Africans can complain but that is just the way it is. Oh, and Haiti...Africa in the Americas...will have shown no improvement, either.

The fly in for some party making and to feel good about themselves for the ludicrous if not downright silly and misbegotten notion of " saving the planet ". Bottom line, it's money laundering. payoffs and bribes.

All in the name of 'Saving the Planet'. For the left, prosperity is a bad thing. Spend all your money with nothing to show for it! The only thing wasted money produces is inflation.

Africa has enough natural resources to be extraordinarily wealthy, if only the population wasn't so overwhelmingly stupid. I've read there are a few countries where the average IQ is 68. Pouring money on them will just be wasted, and will only get us more 68 IQs.

That lets us out. Heaven knows the US is no longer among the richest nations. Thank Biden, if he ever goes back to his office.

Well, the U.S. is tapped out. So, I guess it's time for China and those Arab countries to ante up. The free ride is over.

Western nations developed the medicines that made it possible for Africans to survive the ghastly diseases that sprout up there constantly. Instead of joining together to develop their countries the tribes just have more members to have intertribal wars and hack each other to death with machetes.
I don’t think Africa will ever change. It’s just not in them.

The carbon tax is a poll tax. No to the carbon tax. It is the most regressive tax ever devised. No.

Some African countries were pretty prosperous under European rule. South Africa and Rhodesia thrived. When the these countries were over became home ruled they went from "Bread Basket' to ones of starvation. None of the countries there, with all their land and mineral wealth, are worth much. They wanted to rule themselves, and that is great, so why don't they do that and do it right?

What has any country in Africa ever done for itself. Nothing, nadda, zippo. Their problems are of their own creation. Wars and genocide are common. Corruption and greed are at the top of their list. Because of that other countries have taken total advantage of them. They have nobody to blame but themselves. Look at what they have done to South Africa. Total destruction. And as usual John Kerry is right there in the middle of it. A total freakin hypocrite.

Ever seen a water hole in Africa where they go to get water and carry it away in plastic containers? It's littered with empty plastic trash that no one cleans up. Of course, Africans need an excuse to get money from us. They like to buy weapons, fancy cars, hotels and prostitutes. As #1 said it perfectly.

Kenya’s President William Ruto lies. Richest nations are the cleanest nations.
A 100% tax on everything couldn't help Africa anyway.
