Minnesota’s state and local authorities — Governor Walz, Attorney General Ellison, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, to take only the leading figures — have all but explictly called for resistance to federal law enforcement in Minnesota. Walz, for example, has referred to ICE as the Gestapo and called for “a firewall” against it in Minnesota. Walz and fellow Democrats support a form of what was called “massive resistance” when Senator Harry Byrd sought to block the integration of public schools in the era of Southern segregation.

Student loan borrowers in default were given a reprieve from wage garnishment under a pandemic-era pause on collections, which has since elapsed and allowed the garnishment process to resume.
A Department of Education spokesperson told FOX Business that "we expect the first notices to be sent to approximately 1,000 defaulted borrowers the week of January 7, and the notices will increase in scale on a month-to-month basis."
Borrowers who are in default could see up to 15% of their after-tax wages garnished,

Federal prosecutors have launched a new criminal investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James over financial transactions with her longtime hairdresser, Iyesata Marsh.

The Left has coordinated its story on the death of Renee Good, the woman who was shot yesterday by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. The party line is that the agent didn’t need to shoot Good, because she was turning her car and wouldn’t have hit him.
Thus, the New York Times’s email carries this subject heading: “Videos contradict Trump administration account of ICE shooting in Minneapolis.” The Times says:
An analysis of footage shows that the vehicle driven by a woman who was fatally shot by an ICE agent appeared to be turning away from the officer as he opened fire.
The Washington Post says almost exactly the same thing.
In an exclusive to the New York Post’s Alexandra Steigrad ahead of public release by CBS News PR, Nielsen ratings for Monday’s debut of the CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil came in and, try as the liberal haters tried to spin it, they were solid with Dokoupil notching 4.4 million total viewers, up a half million people than average.
“That’s half-a-million more sets of eyeballs on average than what the broadcast had been getting under previous co-anchors John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois, who helmed the ratings-challenged show for roughly one year,” Steigrad wrote.

Today I attended a lunch sponsored by the Economic Club of Minnesota, at which Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent spoke. Bessent’s presentation was impressive, not because he is a spellbinder, but because he is a data guy, and the data are remarkably strong.
GDP is up, the deficit is down. Inflation is under control. 2026 promises to be a terrific year, driven in part by tax refunds resulting from the Big Beautiful Bill: no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and so on. On Wednesday, an anti-ICE protester thought it would be a good idea to attempt to run over ICE agents in Minneapolis. She learned the hard way that attacking a federal law enforcement officer is not a good idea, and officers wound up shooting and killing her.
Ever since, the left has been gaslighting the public, claiming that the ICE agent shot her without provocation, that he wasn’t in front of the car when she hit the gas, that she was just turning her vehicle when she was shot, and that she wasn’t even involved in the anti-ICE protests.

Florida’s Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd gave his opinion on the Minneapolis ICE shooting, saying, “If you do felonious assaults with two-ton weapons, expect to be shot.”
Judd posted his take on the incident in which an ICE agent shot and killed a woman who allegedly drove her vehicle into him.
He opened his comments by saying, “You have to be accountable for your conduct, and that starts with the mayor. Did you hear his filthy talk? Did you hear his filthy, uninformed talk yesterday?”
