Stellantis warns union of potentially
thousands of job cuts at plant outside Detroit

DETROIT — Stellantis is warning union workers that it could lay off as many as 2,450 of the 3,700 union workers employed at a truck plant just outside of Detroit. The job cuts would be at the Stellantis Warren Truck Plant, which builds an older version of the Ram 1500 pickup called the Tradesman, sold mainly to commercial businesses. The company came out with a new version of the truck in 2018, and for the 2025 model year there’s a new Tradesman. It’s likely that job cuts will be lower than that because of early retirement offers that are underway

Comments:

If they burn the unsold truck tires Tim-Tim's wife will like the smell.

I was car shopping a couple years ago and about passed out when I saw the prices on those Dodge trucks. Maybe they wouldn't have to close plants if they charged a reasonable price that didnt require me to mortgage the grandkids.

When you see the Big 3 start laying off thousands- the impact on suppliers is huge! This also hits the 17-21 dollar an hour assembly line worker- which is a large portion of Michigan jobs. Wonder what Stretchen Gretchen will do for Michigan?

I'm with you #8. When I saw the prices for pickup trucks at a car show recently, I was stunned at not only the cost of these things, but the number of them on the road. Whose making this kind of money? Every truck I saw was priced well over fifty grand, with some at eighty grand, and it's not like every truck was loaded with options. Some looked pretty much stock. The vast majority of pickups aren't being used for business and in my area very few have properties where a pickup is needed to maintain the back forty. In addition, when you add in that these vehicles get in most cases less than 22 miles per gallon, the only other explanation I have is that these people want something that will stand up to the roads that are falling apart.

The name could be the problem and we are reading way too much into it. Some guys with doubts of their own manliness buy huge pickup trucks that they do not need, simply to enhance their self image. Who would buy a truck named Stellantis? It kind of defeats the purpose to say you have brightened yourself with stars. It doesn't quite have the ring of Ford, Chevy or Dodge.

There is a price point for everything. At that point people either don't have the money or determine that the product is not worth the cost....or both. We are reaching that point now, from fast food to new vehicles.
