From Hogan to a Trumpier Senate: Early
takeways from Tuesday’s primaries

The presidential primary may be decided, but election season marches on. Voters in several states, including Maryland and West Virginia, chose nominees Tuesday in critical races that could decide the balance of power on Capitol Hill next year. Here are some early takeaways from Tuesday’s primaries: Maryland’s former Republican governor, Larry Hogan, easily won his party’s nomination for the U.S. Senate seat opened by Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin’s retirement. The Senate race in the solidly Democratic state would normally be a snoozer, but Hogan is a candidate unlike any other Republican.

IMO most Republicans like myself only voted for Hogan because he will help to bring the majority to the Republicans in the Senate. He was the only candidate that stood a chance against any Democrat running. As Republican he sucks . He is Mitt Romney without the secret Mormon underwear.

Huh, Maryland. Sounds like a lost cause even if Hogan wins since he's anti-Trump as the article states. After reading the entire article, it sounds like the Washington Times of yore is more leftist than ever. For example, hilarity within the article: "Manchin was a centrist Democrat". . .Yeah, there are "moderate" democrats, just like there are moderate muslims. s/

Hogan is a candidate "unlike any other Republican".....yes, near as I can tell from the articles that have been written about Hogan over the last few years, he's a NeverTrumper, and basically a Democrat with a couple of minor twists who calls himself "Republican". Not someone that I'd want.

This is Maryland- Hogan’s gubernatorial opponents were lame shysters. He has no chance against a minority woman in this state. Western Maryland needs to secede and become part of West Virginia.

Even though Robin Ficker would have been a better pick than Hogan, I voted Hogan for one reason. He can win. Ficker wouldn't have stood a chance against the demoslut in Maryland. While Hogan isn't a trump supporter, he is Republican and will vote for some of what Trump wants to pass. The demoslut would voted against everything Trump. Every demoslut running were running ads full of lies. Republicans will end democracy. Republicans will end social security. Republicans will eliminate your choice to choose. The ads for the demoslut winner even had ads saying the day the Supreme Court voted against Roe v Wade, it ended the rights of women to have an abortion. If their willing to lie about something so obviously untrue then they'll lie about everything.

Several posters giving excellent explanations of the old saying I was told years ago by a more experienced political hand than I was. "Politics is the art of the possible, don't get trapped trying for the impossible." Yep, a 50% agreement candidate is not so great, but much better than a 0% agreement candidate. And voting for the 100% agreement candidate who has a 1% chance of election is stupid if there is a 50% agreement candidate with a 60% chance of election.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., criticized fellow Democrat from Pennsylvania, Sen. John Fetterman, on Friday after he made fun of a House markup that spiraled out of control. A late-night House Oversight markup for a resolution to hold Biden administration Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress devolved into a shouting match on Thursday, which involved several representatives, including Ocasio-Cortez, and Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas.

In deciding to debate ex-President Donald Trump on June 27 and Sept. 10, President Biden tacitly admitted he’s losing right now; this is a Hail Mary gambit to turn the race around. Trump needs to figure out how to seal the deal instead. That means practicing so he can keep his cool, and pull off a performance more like the second 2020 Biden-Trump faceoff than the first.Biden’s goal will be to goad Trump into shooting himself in the foot on things like abortion and early voting.

Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Marjorie Taylor Greene had a heated exchange Thursday evening during what was supposed to be a contempt hearing for Attorney General Merrick Garland. The House Oversight Committee had originally been convened to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt for refusing to comply with a subpoena to hand over an audio recording of President Biden’s interview with a special counsel. The hearing quickly spiraled out of control, with lawmakers bickering with one another. Less than an hour after the hearing was underway, Greene took shots at her Democratic colleague, Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas.

President Joe Biden polls at or below 40 percent approval. Historically, such unpopularity has made it almost impossible for a president to be reelected. Biden is not so much an octogenarian as an unhealthy and prematurely aging 80-year-old. It is America's irony that he is fit for almost no other job in the country other than the presidency, which apparently allows for a three-day-a-week ceremonial role while others in the shadows run the country. So how does Biden become renominated and reelected, as polls show he is behind in almost every critical swing state on nearly every issue?

A Jewish Biden administration official resigned over President Joe Biden’s stance on the war in Gaza, becoming the first Jewish staffer appointed by the president to resign publicly. Lily Greenberg Call, special assistant to the chief of staff in the Interior Department, cited her Jewish heritage as the reason for her resignation. In her letter, she related her deep ties to the United States and Israel but expressed deep opposition to Israel’s conduct in its war against Hamas in Gaza, calling it a “genocide.” “The President has the power to call for a lasting ceasefire, to stop sending weapons to Israel, and to condition aid

As far as the Democrats are concerned, anyone who doubted that the 2020 presidential election was "the most secure election in American history" is an insurrectionist "election denier." And such "deniers" are, in this formulation, a threat to democracy whose efforts must be thwarted again in 2024. But the assumptions behind this mindset are the reason why it is President Joe Biden's political party, not the Republicans, that may well be the real threat to election integrity and democracy this year. Having spent the last three and a half years trashing their political foes as authoritarians, Democrats have come to believe their success at the ballot box is indistinguishable from

Democrats were hoping 2024 would be all about Donald Trump. Instead the No. 1 issue in a world on fire is Joe Biden’s incompetence. Last week, President Biden said he would withdraw military aid to Israel if it commenced military operations to go into Rafah and go after Hamas. There were many reactions to this announcement because it seemed to perfectly encapsulate the incoherent Israel policy the Biden administration has been developing since Hamas’ brutal attack last October that touched off the war in Gaza. On one hand, the American people are broadly supportive of Israel and the moral justification for this war. Lest anyone forget, Hamas

In recent weeks the Biden administration and many news outlets, including USA Today and The Hill, have touted declines in violent crime statistics to argue that America is becoming a safer place. “Right now, with 2023 figures and early 2024, the trends are all pointing down, in a positive direction,” Jeff Asher, whose New Orleans-based AH Datalytics is developing his own “Real-Time Crime Index,” told RealClearInvestigations. COVID-19, which killed 1.1 million Americans and destroyed the lives and livelihoods of millions more, is a manmade virus that escaped from a Chinese lab partly funded by the US government. Even today, you’re not supposed to say that — even though it’s the only plausible scenario. No, “fact checkers” will rush in to claim that eminent scientists deny this. Which is because those scientists have too much invested — in money, in time, in their own beliefs — to admit the truth. But as Congress continues to probe, that truth is coming out, little by little, and the lies are being exposed:
