There was a recent article from Newsweek that caught my eye. Entitled “Why Republicans’ War Against Taylor Swift Could Backfire,” it delves into an X (formerly Twitter) spat between The Federalist’s Sean Davis and left-wing activist Victor Shi. In response to an excellent piece by Mark Hemingway detailing the shallowness and vapidity, both technically and spiritually, of Swift’s music, Davis quipped, “Taylor Swift is dumb and her music sucks.” In response, Shi wrote, “Nothing says more about how little Republicans understand Gen Z than them now saying Taylor Swift is “dumb & her music sucks” after she registered more than 35,000 people to vote last week.

Your thoughts, comments, and ideas are always welcome here. But we ask you to please be mindful and respectful. Threatening or crude language doesn't persuade anybody and makes the conversation less enjoyable for fellow L.Dotters.
And I wonder how many of those 35,000 really exist?

Taylor Swift has gone from zero articles in the 'news' to two or three articles a day. Did she hire a new PR firm to manage her career? They 'need' attention. There is no such thing as bad publicity as long as it gets them into the limelight.

Granted - she's talented enough to play a guitar and writ her own music. but it's always about breaking up and the boyfriends she's had.
If you're 33 yrs old and you're still breaking up, hooking up, breaking up, hooking up over and over again and writing about it and putting it into music - and that's you're one track - then that screams arrested development to me.
I'm pretty much *meh* about Taylor Swift

She's lacking in self-respect and gives herself away to man after man. Sorry, but this is not someone to be celebrated. I don't begrudge her ability to earn top dollar in her industry. But when I recently saw her hanging with the mom of her new football crush I wondered how any mother could want her son anywhere near that trash. It's a very sad commentary on many levels.

I consider Swift as I do Humphrey Bogart, Glenn Miller, Marilyn Monroe, Evis Presley, the Beatles, David Crosby, Homer Simpson and so many more. They are all no different from an Organ Grinders little monkey. Just entertainers.

"How do we course correct? How do we get an entire generation to snap out of its uninformed arrogance? "
We don't. Forget it. It's over.

I didn't realize she is 33 years old until I read some article on her recently that mentioned her age. She has always seemed to me to be a permanent 16 year old. And I hear how she is a great businesswoman but I believe her father is/was a investment broker or something and has been advising her. Anyway - her music sucks and so do her fans - anyone who will pay over $1200.00 for one her tickets is an idiot but probably the same idiots who complain about the cost of gasoline.

It’s nice to read an article from someone who despises Taylor Swift as much as I do. She is a low-talent pop tart brought to stardom by brilliant marketing. Beyond that? Nada.

They may be registered to vote (herd mentality) but it doesn't mean they will. You'll hear, ,"The election was yesterday?"

On Monday Night Football the cameras cut to her private box 17 times during the game. That says a lot about what the media thinks is important. And yes, her music sucks.

I grew up with the Beatles. That's how old I am. Don't know one song she has ever sang. That's okay. Don't ever want to hear her sing. That's okay too. Has lots of fans. That's fine. Those fans pay through the butt to see and hear her. Their choice. Multi multi millionaire. It's her money. She worked for it. She is now a football fan because her main squeeze (for now) plays the game. Eventually she will breakup with him and he will inspire her next song that I will not care about or listen to. Whatever. Millions of women watch football every week because they simply enjoy the game. I prefer college. It appears she has pretty good control of her own life except for a lasting relationship. However, do not take political advice from a celebrity. Think for yourself, research, read, listen, evaluate.

The best thing that could ever happen would be for people to stop paying attention to what celebrities say and do and to just worry about the quality of their work. Like her music or not, Taylor Swift is an extremely talented singer. But, as in the case of most musicians, actors, and athletes who have tall podiums to stand on, that talent doesn’t mean she has anything intelligent to say. The great actor Anthony Hopkins says he doesn’t talk about anything other than his movies because he has noticed that most actors aren’t that smart.

I wish we could relegate entertainers back to their proper sphere of influence, only a wee bit higher than prostitutes.

I'll give the gal some credit. She puts on a three hour straight show, rain or shine. She's worked hard for what she has accomplished. But she, like most celebrities, should just "Shut Up and Sing." Hat tip to Laura Ingraham for that line.

Where did this 35,000 number come from? Self reported I imagine, or made up. How many of this number will actually vote? The same people who 'decide' to register to vote are historically lazy when it is time to actually fill out a ballot. Then again, it doesn't really matter since the Dems have multiple ways to magically and illegally 'create' votes.

All she has to do is open her big, fat mouth for anyone to realize Taylor is not so Swift. Not quite right in the head, that is.

I wonder if Travis Kelce knows that he will be the future inspiration for one of Swift's songs about ex-boyfriends.

Taylor Swift described herself in a song lyric:
She’s a “nightmare wrapped in a daydream.”
She writes and sings songs where she tells all her fans that she’s a literal monster, a villain.
She knows her fans are pathetic chumps. It’s pretty much impossible to feel sorry for her fans.

Someone needs to do a montage of all Taylor's exes going back to her teen years...from Patrick Schwarzenegger to Jake Gyllenhaal to Joe Jonas and the beat goes on. There used to be a name for women like her. Now she's idolized by young pre-teen girls and their mothers. I'm not so sure of Kelce's Mom though. She seems a bit embarrassed by it all.

I would guess that most L-dotters are members of the older generation, like me. You should be on the lookout for signs that your grandkids are influenced by the pop culture and do your best to inculcate basic American values and offset that culture they are picking up in public school and college. I avoid discussing particular candidates and tell my grandkids to always vote for freedom. Keep the lesson short, in a soundbite. That will stick with them longer and may one day influence them to move to the conservative side. Always choose freedom.
