A grand jury indicted Alec Baldwin on Friday on an involuntary manslaughter charge in a 2021 fatal shooting during a rehearsal on a movie set in New Mexico, reviving a dormant case against the A-list actor.
Special prosecutors brought the case before a grand jury in Santa Fe this week, months after receiving a new analysis of the gun that was used.
Baldwin, the lead actor and a co-producer on the Western movie "Rust," was pointing a gun at cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during a rehearsal on a movie set outside Santa Fe in October 2021 when the gun went off, killing her and wounding director Joel Souza.

He's definitely guilty, from all the info released so far. The gun was in his hand, and operated by him. No doubt he didn't intend to kill her, but his negligence was responsible for her death.

Too bad for Alec the courts stopped protecting defendants from double jeopardy when they indicted Trump the 9th time.

Re #3, double jeopardy wouldn't apply. That term is for a defendant found innocent in one trial couldn't be recharged and a new trial take place.
Baldwin was never tried, I believe that the charges were dropped, so this is still 'single jeopardy' as I understand the term.

The gun was in his hand, he pointed it at the victim, he admits to drawing the hammer back but not pulling the trigger, every tester of the gun said there was no way to fire unless you pulled the trigger while the hammer was cocked....you committed involuntary manslaughter, Alec.

He'll still get off but at least he's likely upset and outraged right now and that's a good thing. Maybe a little time in jail will get his attention. No one will put up with his diva behavior there.

Mistakenly thought the dropped charges had been an exoneration, #5. Maybe because so many "news" reports made it sound like it proved his innocence, but still my bad for that...

RE #8: I was taught that there is no such thing as an unloaded gun, to treat every weapon as if it were fully loaded. Baldwin is a leftist so I doubt he has had firearm safety training or he would have NEVER pointed a gun at someone without checking it out himself.

Seems to me Baldwin in being harrassed over what was an accident. Why?
(and, no, I am not a fan. He's not the most charming celeb out there.)

Re #13, Baldwin the producer put in place operating rules on his movie which permitted an unqualified person (assistant director, IIRC) to handle a gun and incompetently declare "cold gun", so that Baldwin, the actor, could point the gun at a living person, cocked the hammer and pulled the trigger while pointing it at fwo staff members, killing one, wounding the other.
If the producer and the actor were two different persons, perhaps the blame could be spread out more.
However, since Baldwin did both jobs, he aggregates most of the blame to himself.
The tense is wrong above because the brainlessdirty word filter wont recognize the verb for pulling back the hammer. Stupid.

Anyone who has handled firearms knows that you never ever point that gun at someone you do not intend to shoot. What he did was stupid, incomprehensible, and the result of an ignorant, arrogant POS who thinks he’s far smarter than he is. I very much hope he goes to jail where he belongs.

He could do jail time.

... the lead actor and a co-producer on the Western movie "Rust," was pointing a gun at cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during a rehearsal on a movie set outside Santa Fe in October 2021 when the gun went off ...
ABC reports The actor was practicing a cross-draw on the Santa Fe set in October 2021 when the gun fired ...
Alec didn't do nothin' ... just an innocent bystander and a victim of circumstance. That he held the gun and pulled the trigger is a meaningless detail.
