A supermarket chain has decided to remove popular household brands from a store in Washington, D.C., citing rising crime rates. The Ward 8 location of the grocery retailer Giant Food will no longer be carrying brands such as Tide detergent, Colgate toothpaste or even Advil ibuprofen, over a continued rise in theft and crime rates, the Washington Post reported. Article says retail theft is up 24% compared to last year. I bet it has more than doubled since 2020 and George Floyd.

Ward 8 be da hood. No surprise da homies there be helpin demselves to the five finger discount. I gather this is a problem throughout the DMV. Even here in the Virginia burbs my local Giant closed off one of its two entrances for what I assume were reasons associated with product growing legs and walking out the door. If it's bad enough here in the burbs for them to take such drastic measures I can only imagine how bad it is in da hood. Muriel Bowwowwowser must be really proud of the job she's doing in DC.

Ukrainian authorities ordered a mandatory evacuation of several villages and three dozen other populated areas as Russian troops advanced on the Kharkiv province. The evacuation directive applies to 37 settlements that Russian forces captured early in the 18-month-old war but were liberated by a Ukrainian counteroffensive in September. Citing a Russian attempt to push back into the area, the military administration in the Kupiansk district told roughly 12,000 residents to seek safety elsewhere.
