Buffett leaves behind his wife Jane Slagsvol and his three children: Savannah, Sarah and Cameron. The musician began
I was a "Parrot Head" before it was cool. He will be missed. RIP Jimmy.

Buffett loved life in semitropical Florida, made a lot of enjoyable music, and did things his way. May he rest in peace. Daily I wear his boat shoes (Margaritaville brand) and sometimes buy his frozen seafood at Publix. Forbes did recently estimate his new worth at a billion. His business skills might have been as great as his musical skills. A very nice life.

Yes, #1. By all of the Parrotheads. I was a big fan early on having grown up about 40 miles from where he grew up and around the same time. Back when he was just a local guy playing at the FloraBama bar. Saw him perform numerous times.
When my husband and I were dating, one of his songs was our “theme” song and we played it so often at our favorite beach bar that my husband still remembers the letter and number to punch it in on the juke box. Ironically, the song was “Survive”.
RIP, Jimmy.

Jimmy was everybody’s friend and his music brought smiles for decades.
He was a consummate song writer, lyricist, and performer and a nice guy to boot.
Rest well, friend. You had a hell of a life and you invited the rest of us along for the ride. RIP, pal.

My favorite JB song is "Come Monday." Every time we drive down to Destin FL we always make it a point to stop at LuLu's Restaurant (run by Jimmy's sister.)
We'll miss you Jimmy

A long time ago I rented a house in Key West, on a canal and next door to Jimmy Buffet. He used to get so mad at the boaters who would come flying down through there. He'd stand at the edge of his property and shout "No wake! No wake!", until he was red in the face. Very funny. Ironically, I had a cheeseburger for supper last night. RIP, Jimmy.

Immensely talented and fun-loving guy who, like Frank Sinatra, did it his way. I have often envied the life he lived and he will be missed. Cheers and Bon Voyage, Jimmy!

“If we couldn’t laugh, we would all go insane”!
Thank you for all of the smiles & laughs and good memories through the years, Jimmy. You were a friend from the first time we heard your music.

One of the down-to earth musical artists that kept me pointed in the right direction during my college years, when disco was ruining my social life. When asked on 60 Minutes many years ago what keeps him going he recollected the time he was in a hotel lounge off the interstate, watching some older musician on the downhill slide playing to an unappreciative crowd. Told himself, "I'm never going there." Was stationed in Panama City during the nineties where there was a great beach bar (can't remember the name of it). Just off the terrace was a small pirate cannon mounted atop a piling in the sand. Every evening, as the sun was setting, they'd stuff it with newspaper and then select a babe from among the patrons to light the fuse the instant the sun dipped below the horizon while the band broke out into "Margaritaville." And when they played "God's Own Drunk" once the crowd was sufficiently imbibed? Great times that will never be had again. Thanks, and RIP, Jimmy.

We are all mortal.
We only get one life to live.
He lived it to the fullest.
He also made life more enjoyable for millions.
Quite a nice epitaph.
I'll have a fishbowl on the rocks!

In addition to his talent as a songwriter and singer, he had a very good head for business.
Read somewhere that the operational costs on his tours were among the lowest around for the size of the crowds he performed for. He was also an author and did a great job merchandising the Margaritaville brand. RIP. Will continue to play his records/tapes/CDs until my time comes.

Jimmy came under a lot of criticism for opposing that worthless idiotic Iraq war. Sorry about that Jimmy. You were right. RIP.

Jimmy may have been a Floridian, but in my opinion he was the King of High Beach Culture in southern California - even over the Beach Boys. (I say this at the risk of excommunication.) My credentials are four years on the sands of north San Diego County in Cardiff-by-the-Sea and Del Mar in the mid 1980's. Buffet's music was a staple at the beach bars and on the sand, not to mention my stereo at home. So many have already posted my favorites; Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes; Come Monday; A Pirate Looks at 40; Cheeseburger in Paradise; Margaritaville; and when I'm in the mood for a good story there's nothing like "God's Own Drunk".
Jimmy Buffet was a man of style, grace and influence. He was a singular human being. He was an American. I am proud he was one of us; he was my brother and a good man. O God, grant unto him the eternal rest; and may the Perpetual Light shine upon him. Amen.

#20, Buffett was from Alabama, though he spent most of his life in Florida.

Wonderful story, #3 and #21. I still have my 33 1/3 vinyls one of which is - Jimmy Buffett - All the Great Hits. The record is a bit warped but no scratches, it still plays. Last winter, my wife found a Crosley turntable on ebay and bought it for me. I can play records through my still-working Heathkit amplifiers. God help me if I ever need to find replacement vacuum tubes for it. Not long ago, I had a chance to buy a still-working juke box in town. But just a small problem - I don't know what happened to my 45s. Got lost in the move from Denver I guess. So walked from the deal. I had some Jimmy Buffett 45s, too.

We had some friends, USN aviator and family in my father's squadron in the 50s. The oldest son, about four years older than me...so as a kid, we knew each other, but I was "a little kid", met Buffet before he was famous, and got to be a drinking friend. The aviator had retired to the Keys, and his kids stayed in Florida.
So, Larry wound up being one of Buffet's charter captains, and I hear via a sister that Jimmy had him own and lease the tour bus to Buffet. Looking our for friends was part of what he did.
And he used to have a neat Grumman amphibious aircraft to sport around the islands on his own schedule. Not into hard drinking and dope, but his music was good.

No musician has ever triggered in me the love for place that he has. God bless Jimmy Buffett and God bless the Keys.
