Electric vehicle fires pose significant
challenge to firefighters as Colorado
pushes for 940,000 EVs by 2030

Electric vehicle purchases in Colorado are soaring, with EV registrations in 2022 up by 822% since 2016. But some firefighters say they're going to need a lot more resources if these vehicles keep coming at that rate, because they still don't know the best ways to extinguish the flames if an electric vehicle catches fire. Firefighters have had more than 100 years to perfect the art of putting out a fire involving a vehicle with a gas motor engine. But those traditional tactics don't work on electric vehicles because they use lithium ion batteries to run instead of gas. Lithium

I wonder: How many EVs did Lahaina have? So I googled it and found: "As of March 2022, there were about 19,000 electric vehicles in Hawaii. The state has the second-highest number of electric vehicles per capita in the United States, behind California." And they want to blame Hawaii Electric Company

I'd heard Colorado was being over run by leftists out of Kalifornia, but I never thought it was that bad...registrations up 822%, and only 6 million people in the whole state, and 103,000 square miles??? Thats around 58 people per square mile...

Something smells bad. Did anyone else catch the news nugget about Amazon publishing the definitive book on the Maui fires on 8/10/23. The fire was still burning on 8/11. In the words of Buffalo Springfield - somethings happening here… Fire and Fury: The Story of the Maui Fire and its Implications for Climate Change is a gripping and eye-opening account of one of the most devastating wildfires in Hawaii's history, and how it reveals the urgent need to address the global climate crisis

Re #1. I'm thinking of an e-bike leaned against a wood framed building "out back" as the worker put it on charge. Poof! An inextinguishable lithium battery fire, perfect for setting a bunch of frame buildings alight.

It will never happen. We are approaching "peak EV" now, and few people want to buy them. I complained about the unnecessary overcomputerized complexity of a car that I am taking for service to the service guy, and he said, "Wait until you see the EVs. They are far, far more computer complex." I told him "I'll never own one." And he said, "I hear that from most of my customers."

I'm guessing that owning an EV and surviving a Colorado winter is more dangerous than a spontaneous fire. I'll never have to worry about either one. Legalized marijuana is not good for a state.

Not all Americans fell in love with Sandra Bullock’s inspirational football movie “The Blind Side” when it was released in November 2009. Sure, “The Blind Side” made $309 million at the box office and Bullock won her long-awaited Academy Award, but many Black viewers “never cared much for it” according to The Root. Discerning critics also saw the movie, based on a best-selling book by Berkeley author Michael Lewis, as another Hollywood project that uses “White savior” tropes. Now, critics of the movie have more ammunition in the wake of bombshell court documents filed by Michael Oher, the Black athlete

Alone in a new country with young children and no access to work, migrant mothers told CBS News they're worried about the food available for their families in the New York City shelters. Three migrant women living in the shelters, Angelica, Osranary and Michelle, were in agreement when asked about their thoughts on the food, saying it's "not good." Osranary, who arrived about a month ago, said most of the food they're given is pasta and salad, which isn't always appropriate for young children. Angelica, who arrived with her family in New York three months ago, said certain foods her

The new indictment charges the 31-year-old former billionaire with seven counts of conspiracy and fraud over the collapse of the exchange. He has previously pleaded not guilty. Bankman-Fried’s personal fortune was once estimated at $26bn and the cryptocurrency mogul was once one of the biggest political donors in Washington. The indictment alleges that Bankman-Fried concealed the fact that FTX

When Hawaii officials released a report last year ranking the natural disasters most likely to threaten state residents, tsunamis, earthquakes and volcanic hazards featured prominently. Near the bottom of a color-coded chart, the state emergency management agency described the risk of wildfires to human life with a single word: “low.” A year and a half later, the catastrophic fires that engulfed Maui and the historic town of Lahaina this week have already become the state’s deadliest natural disaster in more than six decades, with a fatality count of at least 93. Hawaii officials underestimated the deadly threat of wildfires even

Video and photos posted on social media show the historic Maria Lanakila church, which was founded in 1846, apparently unscathed despite surrounding buildings and vegetation having been incinerated. The church is located in the town of Lahaina, which was largely wiped out by the fire with more than 1,700 buildings reported burned. Arguments were made to reduce the cost of the surgery in its Journal of Ethics issue in June titled Patient-Centered Transgender Surgical Care. But the AMA has been criticized for floating the idea and has been accused of holding an 'activist position'. It argued that trans women's inability to bear children may cause them to experience 'psychological dissonance' which undermines their health and well-being.

Wherever we drive nowadays, we see electric vehicles (EVs) amid the normal internal combustion cars and hybrids. (Snip) The modern Left has a dream – that soon, very soon, every vehicle in the world will be electric, running on a heavy, cobalt-laden, lithium battery that needs to be charged up somewhere with electricity derived from an out-of-sight coal plant. The EV’s current average, we are told, is eight hours to a “full charge,” whatever that means. It might be a couple hundred miles, maybe less, maybe more. Some chargers charge faster, some vehicles take longer. We rarely see the EVs charging up while we fill our normal cars

During the inferno that devastated part of the island of Maui, wiping entire towns off the map and possibly killing more than a thousand people (once a full assessment can be made), people on Maui begged state officials to allow West Maui stream water to be diverted to fill up reservoirs for firefighting. That request went to M. Kaleo Manuel, Deputy Director of Hawaii's Commission on Water Resource Management, and he delayed approval of that water for five hours - five hours in which the once-contained fire exploded. By the time the approval was received, workers were unable to reach the siphon release so that the water could be diverted.
