During the inferno that devastated part of the island of Maui, wiping entire towns off the map and possibly killing more than a thousand people (once a full assessment can be made), people on Maui begged state officials to allow West Maui stream water to be diverted to fill up reservoirs for firefighting. That request went to M. Kaleo Manuel, Deputy Director of Hawaii's Commission on Water Resource Management, and he delayed approval of that water for five hours - five hours in which the once-contained fire exploded. By the time the approval was received, workers were unable to reach the siphon release so that the water could be diverted.

FTA:
.
Now we're learning that Manuel, an Obama Foundation Leader for the Asia Pacific Region, is a climate change activist and DEI devotee who's said, "Like, we can share [water], but it requires true conversations about equity.”

That's what you get for 'begging'. Next time use it first, notify later.

You didn’t really expect efficiency, reliability, and competency in government in a wholly owned Democrat state, did you?
Likely the 106 people killed and 1000 people missing were also Democrats, and got the government they voted for

In that sort of situation I would expect fire and other emergency workers to just use the water and worry about permissions and protocols afterwards.
So waiting hours for a OK from a non-emergency Bureau seems ODD.

Gee, anybody shocked by this. No matter what the tragedy, no matter how many people are dying or suffering, leave to a sick freakin democrat to screw it up. Oh, anybody hear anything from the Obama's. Didn't think so. Pathetic pieces of trash.

Water is reverant to this obama appointee.
It must be worth at least 1,000 lives of men women and children to him.

I don't understand. Who is the Director for the Commission on Water Resource Management in Hawaii?
M. Kaleo Manuel is the Deputy Director. Who else was involved in the decision to deny water to the fire fighters? Did someone over rule him? It's hard to believe he didn't understand the importance of dealing with the fire emergency, before worrying about "equity."

Democrats will probably nominate M. Kaleo Manuel for governor at some point or have him appointed to a high position by FJB. He certainly is qualified after his 'equity' conversation caused multiple deaths.

"Conversations around equity".....during a firestorm. It's really a shame that this evil racist didn't perish in the fire and make the world a little bit better.

While our DC 'betters' eliminated our Navy's Fireboats (the one from Pearl Harbor was leased to Oakland for $1/year, supporting the civilian government), the Navy still retains some firefighting tug boats that draw and pump seawater, I'd venture to say that no one in Hawaii's state government made the request. Given the intentional deconstruction of our Navy, it would not surprise me if the HQ of our Pacific Fleet is without those specialized tugs.

The Water Commission will claim they were unaware of the seriousness of the situation. Of course, the 100+ dead and over 1000 still missing, bodies floating in the ocean, entire towns and neighborhoods burned to ashes, Billions of dollars in damages give a totally different picture of the seriousness of the situation that the bureaucrats so callously ignored and appear to accept no responsibility for.
