To commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, we will post next week an op-ed from Pepperdine economist Gary M. Galles, who reminds us of the inspirational words left behind by those who won our liberty. One statement, a warning from George Washington, stands out in a time when this nation is electing some of the worst candidates imaginable. “Government,” Washington said, “is not reason. It is not eloquence. It is a force, like fire: a dangerous servant and a terrible master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.” We see irresponsibility in government all

Six weeks of lying? No thanks. I can read a real history book on America’s founding. People are getting willfully stupider by the day.

By the end of this year, there could be 10 socialist mayors in the U.S. That’s the most since the 1910s, when socialism was the shiny new object embraced by educated elites. But what excuse do Democrats have today – after 100 years of socialism’s miserable, murderous failures – for embracing this toxic ideology? Back in 1911, according to one historical count, members of the Socialist Party of America won office in 74 towns and cities, and another 32 in 1913. Fast forward to today. As NBC News put it, “Democratic socialists are on the rise in Trump-era mayoral races … fueled by a backlash to Trump policies, economic strain

How do Americans respond to the economic and political system known as socialism? For a decade or two after the collapse of socialism in Eastern Europe countries and other nations, the idea became untenable. Now, however, socialism has regained popularity among many, in particular Democrats, as the June I&I/TIPP Poll demonstrates. In the latest online national poll, taken from May 26 through May 28, 1,589 voting-age respondents were asked the following question: “In general, do you have a favorable or unfavorable view of socialism?” Those answering the poll, which has a margin of error of +/-2.7 percentage points, were

It’s heartening to see foreign soccer fans, especially the Europeans, marvel at their U.S. discoveries. They’ve been awed by Buc-ee’s, Waffle House, and Bass Pro Shops, the best examples of Americana. But what we’re seeing also makes us wonder how long America will still be America. “Soccer fans like Freddy from Germany are embracing U.S. culture as they crisscross the country — and going viral,” says Danielle Shapiro of the Manhattan Institute. “Thousands of Europeans are seeing more of America this summer than many New York Times staffers ever will,” tweets Jimmy G. Germans and Scots are singing “American

Say what you want about Democrats, but they sure know how to stick to their talking points. When the IPO for SpaceX made Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire, Democrats were primed. Almost in unison, they cried about how “Americans are struggling to pay for groceries and gas,” how the economy “is rigged,” and how the rich “don’t pay their fair share of taxes.” It’s all out of the politics-of-envy handbook. But the latter claim is particularly galling, especially when it’s being made by lawmakers who know better. Ohio Democratic Rep. Greg Landsman, for example, penned an op-ed complaining about how

Spencer Pratt has done it again. Everyone not living under a rock the last few months knows the onetime reality star turned politics on its head with his spirited insurgent Republican candidacy in the Los Angeles mayoral “jungle” primary. The outside-the-envelope element of his effort: the gloriously gobsmacking, galvanizing use of crazily creative and enormously entertaining social media ads — both by Pratt’s team and independent influencers. The vignettes leveraged artificial intelligence and Hollywood-level production values to lay bare the devastation and decline delivered by decades of Democratic depravity

Democrats put everything they had in their effort to shut down President Donald Trump’s border control plans. And what exactly have they achieved for their often-infantile antics? Well, let’s see. This week, the House passed a bill that funds ICE for three years. Deportations are near all-time highs. Oh, and it looks like Trump’s border wall will be completed next year. On Tuesday, the House passed a “budget reconciliation” bill that provides enough money ($38 billion) to fund ICE for the rest of Trump’s term, plus $28 billion for the Border Patrol, and another $5 billion for border security technology and screening.

Despite his attempts to jettison Joe Biden’s EV mandates, President Donald Trump might have inadvertently set the stage for one of his own. Welcome to the upside-down world of federal government fuel economy standards. Amid the government-created “energy crisis,” a Democratic Congress passed, and President Gerald Ford foolishly signed, a law in 1975 that dictated the average fuel economy automakers must reach for the passenger cars they sell in a given year. Failure to meet that standard meant paying huge fines. The energy crisis is long gone, but the federal “Corporate Average Fuel Economy” (CAFE)

Do you know who Willis Havilland Carrier is? No? Maybe you should. He’s the engineer who, way back in 1902, invented what we now call air conditioning. His invention has been cooling American houses and businesses ever since. But it’s also done something even more important: Saved hundreds of thousands of lives. Think that’s hyperbole? It isn’t. As America prepares for yet another long, hot summer, most of us will stay indoors to work and relax. Why? When the torrid weather arrives, we simply turn on our air conditioning and immediately feel cool air filling our rooms and making us comfortable. But comfort is a bonus to AC’s real impact: saving lives.

Earlier this year, there was a frenzy about the Reflecting Pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. President Donald Trump wanted to clean up what was mostly a fetid swamp, and decided to paint the bottom of the pool a royal blue, in part to help seal cracks but also because, why not? “Critics” went beserk, saying, as CNN reported, that “the Reflecting Pool will look more like a swimming pool, with the shine of a country club, like the president’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida … — and that the pool will actually be less reflective.” “It’s not supposed to look like you’re going to dive in

Once upon a time, Americans truly understood the meaning of wartime sacrifice. World War II rationing – not simply price hikes, but actual deprivation of goods – encompassed basic foods such as meats, butter, cheese, coffee, sugar, and canned, bottled, and frozen fruits and vegetables. Purchase-restricted necessities included clothing and shoes, metal goods and tires (hence scrap and rubber drives), and yes, gasoline. Such selflessness was universally accepted as the price of ridding the world of the evil and disruptive influences of fascism and militarism as represented by the Third Reich and Tojo’s Japan. Today?

In a special address at London Climate Action Week on Monday, Guterres said that governments must invest more heavily in climate-related initiatives. “We must do far more to protect people and communities from the here-and-now effects of climate chaos,” Guterres said. “Because even at full speed, we cannot outrun climate change. Its impacts are already here, compounding and cascading.”

The Zo-mentum is real. Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s far-left slate of Big Apple congressional hopefuls prevailed in Tuesday’s Democratic primary — with firebrand Darializa Avila Chevalier projected to pull off an AOC-style upset. Former city Comptroller Brad Lander and state Assemblywoman Claire Valdez were quickly projected by the Associated Press and NY1 to win over their establishment Democrat opponents. Avila Chevalier held a razor-thin 49.3% to 46% lead over Rep. Adriano Espaillat with 86% of votes counted late Tuesday, leading the five-term incumbent to concede. The projected win by Avila Chevalier and the congressional race victories — coupled with a likely clean sweep of Democratic Socialists of America candidates in state races

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate backed legislation on Tuesday directing President Donald Trump to halt U.S. military action against Iran, the latest rebuke of the Republican president from an increasingly restive Congress. The Senate voted 50-48 in favor of the war powers resolution, which passed the House ‌of Representatives early this month, reflecting growing concern even among some of Trump's Republicans about the unpopular conflict that began on February 28. It was the first time both chambers of Congress had passed a resolution directing a president to remove U.S. armed forces from hostilities since the War Powers Resolution

Seth Hatfield from Alberta murdered a police officer, Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, and a local Jewish man, Michael Mizrahi, on Monday in a crazed shooting spree in a Jewish section of Montreal. This comes after Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp and relief pitchers JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker stood up to the League’s liberal agenda being foisted upon players and fans by writing verses from Genesis on their hats.

Unearthed audio suggests otherwise, and it’s a campaign killer, believe me. Talarico, the Democrat nominee facing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in November's Senate race, has spent months trying to sell Texans on his Christian faith. But his past words have muddied that message. Talarico has previously claimed "God is nonbinary," argued that the bible sanctioned abortion, and described surgically altering the bodies of gender-confused children as an expression of God's love.
