A Shameful NAACP Boycott

I am willing to assume that there was a time when the NAACP did some good. (I do not make the same assumption about the SPLC.) But that time is long, long gone. For many years, the NAACP has been a force for ill, not for good. An excellent example is its just-launched boycott campaign: The NAACP is calling on Black athletes and fans to boycott the athletic programs of public universities in states that are taking steps that the nation’s oldest civil rights group says are restricting Black voting rights. There is no conceivable theory on which anyone is restricting black voting rights. Launched Tuesday, the “Out of Bounds” campaign urges prospective

Good grief. No smart, talented black athlete is going to give up scholarships and the pure joy of playing a big time sport about a subject that most, white or black, don't care about. Very few even among the general public even know much about re-redistricting or gerrymandering.

Typical Democrat leaders. Their idea of suffering is to let others do the suffering for them. Any wise athlete who can compete at the SEC level would be a fool to let that opportunity slide just so some old Democrat hack can retain his or her seat in Congress by getting 85% of the vote every two years. Maybe if those Democrats would get out and actually campaign on ideas would be something they should do. But they won't.

I heard an interview with a retired black football player, Hall of Famer, and he said that the NAACP was founded in 1909 by 20 white leftists and one black guy to push Communist ideas in the black community. He said they have never been for black people, and always go against things like school choice which would help blacks. Sounds right to me.

The organization has outlived its usefulness. These athletes should mirror Dolly Parton when answering the question about where they stand on politics. Smile, then politely say that it's a private matter--that you're an athlete, not a politician, and your politics are your own. You owe your fans (school) the best you can give, and they'll get it. I don't care where these young athletes stand politically. College football is not the arena for political activism.

And yet, they remain alluring to people with no knowledge of either history or economics, or–probably more relevant–to failing governments. Trump’s actions are draining the climate swamp of resources, supporters, spirit, and momentum.
