Kathy Hochul’s endorsement of Zohran
Mamdani is backfiring spectacularly

Gov. Kathy Hochul thought endorsing Zohran Mamdani would win over his supporters; instead they’re now threatening to oust her if she doesn’t cave to their demands. Oops. If Hochul blocks tax hikes on the rich to fund “universal child care,” warned state Sen. Jabari Brisport at a “Tax the Rich” rally Sunday, “she has to go.” Brisport complains she’s shot down such plans twice before; “If you get a third strike, you’re out,” he threatened, to wild applause. Another tax-the-rich crowd booed Hochul — to her face — when she took the stage at a Mamdani event with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders a few weeks ago.

Tax the rich? There is a basic law of economics that applies here. If you tax something excessively, it will lower the sales of those items. It's been tried with "sin" taxes. State attempts to excessively legalize and tax marijuana looking for a windfall to the states' coffers when they make it harder for the legal dealers and drives buyers to your friendly "pharmaceutical salesman" on the corner and drinkers to buy a cheaper vodka. Not all but it's why the tax receipts always fall short of expectations. It's the same with anything. Double the tax on potato chips and people will look for less expensive. items. Drastically overtax the "billionaires" and you will drive enough away that it will negate the gains as they leave for friendlier states. It's not just the weather that causes so many successful people like pro golfers to move to Florida. Not all, of course but enough to offset the higher taxes in states like California. Some will have assets like real estate, family or situations where they are locked in and can't immediately leave behind but it will lower the number of businesses considering moving in. It will take years but money seeks the areas more welcoming. You can see this by the number of corporations domiciled offshore for financial reasons and really wealthy people moving to lower taxed countries. It will also never be enough for governments. Taxes will then be raised again to make up for those that leave creating a vicious cycle. Businesses will have to raise compensation to attract good employees further causing the best to look elsewhere. Maybe an even higher sales taxes on Broadway shows, hotels and other attractions will bring in more immediate revenue but it will lower tourist visits in the long run.

Any democrat with a brain needs to distance themselves from Sanders and AOC. They are both lying Hypocrites. They go about yapping "Tax the Rice" while they fly around in private jets that their foolish supports ante up for. If they were really worried about the poor that money they squander would go to helping the poor.

I don't remember the exact numbers, but the rich already pay the lion's share of taxes. Taxing them more would be self-defeating as previous posters have stated. Raising taxes slows the economy so fewer dollars are spent, and there's less sales tax income, for instance. When JFK, and Ronaldus Maximus Reagan lowered taxes, the economy boomed and tax revenues actually increased. Too bad DemoRoids are doomed to never learn from history.

After years of tax harassment by the state of New York, Rush Limbaugh sold everything he owned in New York, then moved to Florida, refusing to set foot in New York again. Because of their greed, New York lost the taxes they'd otherwise have collected off of Rush's purported $85 million annual salary (not to mention investment income). It doesn't take many similar moves to put a dent in NY's revenue collection. Who is then left to tax???? The middle class.

Between 1892 and 1954, approximately 12 million immigrants arrived at the now-iconic Ellis Island to enter the U.S.—or nearly 200,000 legal entries per year. All were registered, documented, and given rudimentary health exams. They arrived as rich and poor, white and non-white, and, without exception, legally. With the gradual decline of such great influxes, Ellis Island finally ceased operating roughly 71 years ago. Yet Ellis Island’s successful tenure offers a sharp contrast to the failures of our recent open-border catastrophes. Americans will never know how many immigrants swarmed the southern border between 2021 and 2025,
