Democratic socialist candidate Rae Huang launched her campaign for Los Angeles mayor against Democratic incumbent Karen Bass. "I am excited and very humbled to announce that I am running for Mayor of Los Angeles, the second largest city in our nation," Huang wrote on her Instagram account Saturday. "After over 20 years of leaning into my call to serve God through social justice work and organizing, this path has led me in these uncertain times to take the unusual path to continue my calling by running for Mayor to finally see through the changes the LA social justice movement and I have been building for years." Nevada attorney general Aaron Ford (D.) attended a "messaging and narrative strategy" event for the Clinton Foundation in New York City, according to public records obtained by the Washington Free Beacon—an undisclosed meeting that neither Ford’s office nor the Clinton Foundation seem willing to discuss.
Ford, who is running for Nevada governor, attended the Clinton Foundation function on May 6, according to Ford's official calendar, which was obtained through a public records request and shared with the Free Beacon. Failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea Clinton gave opening remarks at the event, where a number of unidentified state leaders took part in sessions on

The late William F. Buckley, Jr. must be credited as one of the people who established modern conservatism in the United States. He had a weather eye for what or who could help or hurt the movement. In the early 1960s, Robert Welch, founder of the John Birch Society, labeled former president Dwight Eisenhower, former secretary of state George C. Marshall, and many other leading Republicans as communists. He, and the Birch Society, claimed that every federal agency had been taken over by the communists. After many debates and much correspondence with Welch, Buckley led a movement to expel Welch and the John Birch Society from the conservative movement

In a memo to staff on October 30, Avelo Airlines’ head of flight operations Scott Hall painted a rosy, if defensive, picture of the company’s future. Avelo’s financial strategy was working, he said. The company had a big contract from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to do charter deportation flights, and despite some bumps, the future was bright. They had just hired more pilots and couldn’t buy aircraft fast enough to keep pace with demand.
Sure, shutting down their entire West Coast operation looked bad, but it was good, actually, a long-planned move toward efficiency that had nothing to do with the “outrage mob” boycotting Avelo for its association with ICE.

Immigrants detained in facilities across the U.S. would be able to contact their lawyers and families under legislation filed by a group of congressional Democrats.
The Restoring Access to Detainees Act affects immigrants who are placed in Customs and Border Protection or Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities.
Sponsors of the legislation said it follows months of “credible reporting” that ICE and CBP have prevented detainees from contacting family members or legal representatives.
“The Trump administration’s practice of snatching people off the street and denying them access to lawyers or calls to family is cruel, unnecessary, and puts U.S. citizens and lawfully present immigrants at risk of wrongful detention and deportation,”

Country singer Alexis Wilkins has filed a $5 million lawsuit against several conservative influencers who she says falsely portrayed her as a Mossad “honeypot.” Wilkins, who is dating former Trump national security official Kash Patel, filed the suit amid growing disputes inside the conservative movement over Israel and foreign policy.
Patel defended Wilkins in a public statement on X. “The disgustingly baseless attacks against Alexis, a true patriot and the woman I am proud to call my partner in life, are beyond pathetic. She is a rock solid conservative and a country music sensation who has done more for this nation than most will in ten lifetimes,” Patel said.

Florida public school students will learn the “brutal realities” of communism under new standards the State Board of Education adopted Thursday, the state’s education chief said. The “History of Communism” will be integrated into the state’s social studies standards and implemented in the 2026-2027 school year. It’s the result of a 2024 law signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis that mandates students be taught the “consequences of communism” and to prepare them to “withstand indoctrination on communism at colleges and universities.”
“With the resurgence of communist ideologies across the United States and throughout the world, it is more important than ever for students to understand the catastrophic failures and human

An illegal alien allegedly used a child’s identity for several years and caused him to lose access to his Medicaid coverage.
Antonio De Jesus Moreno Escobar, who was living in Texas, was arrested by law enforcement officials after he was discovered to be using falsified documents to work different jobs and rake in health care benefits, Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Wednesday. The apprehension is the latest in Paxton’s ongoing work to root out illegal alien fraud in the state.
“This case is a disturbing example of how illegal aliens drain our resources, hurt innocent Texans, and even deprive children of vital healthcare,” Paxton said in a statement.

As we wrote on Friday, state and local Democrats in North Carolina began wildly chattering this week after information started to circulate that after making progress on sweeping up criminal illegal aliens in Chicago, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was readying immigration operations to start in Charlotte soon. Part of the pushback came from city council members, as well as the sheriff of Mecklenburg County, where Charlotte is located. It was the fear-mongering from one congresswoman and the state's governor, though, that drew the attention of Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino, when they failed to acknowledge the difference between the words "immigrant" and "illegal alien." He helped them out

Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch appeared on Fox News on Thursday morning to discuss his new children’s book, The Heroes of 1776, but the interview shifted to broader concerns about civic understanding in the United States.
Gorsuch said a lack of basic knowledge about the nation’s founding principles represents a serious threat to the country.
Gorsuch noted that many Americans would be unable to pass the civics test required of foreigners seeking to legally immigrate to the United States.
He said this gap in understanding poses long-term risks for the country and echoed themes he has raised previously regarding civic education.
The Federalist reported on the interview and highlighted Gorsuch’s

If there’s any good that’s come from the government shutdown, it’s exposing all the fraud being committed to exploit the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
To be sure, there are millions of needy Americans who were hurting from being deprived of SNAP as they tried to support children and keep their families from going hungry. This is not about them. This is about the other people — the individuals who dip into this program unjustly at the expense of the taxpayer.
Just the News reported that Department of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Steven Vaden has indicated his agency is engaging in data collection relating to SNAP across several states

Vatican officials cast Pope Leo XIV’s meeting Saturday with three dozen Hollywood and Italian A-lister cinema stars as “cultural outreach” by a pontiff who has long had a soft spot for film.
But in a papacy barely six months old, even small things can be a cultural Rorschach test – including the conspicuous absence of high-profile conservative stars at Saturday’s event. Leo’s guest list included Oscar-winning director Spike Lee; two-time Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett; comedy director Judd Apatow; Mad Max director George Miller; Gus Van Sant, best known for directing Oscar winner Good Will Hunting;
