Senate Republicans Continue Harry Reid's
Nominee Blockade

Harry Reid, the former Democrat leader of the U.S. Senate, left the Senate in 2017 and died in 2021, but his ghost must still be haunting the chamber. How else can one explain why the Republican majority is continuing the blockade Reid initiated back in 2007 to prevent a Republican President (George W. Bush) from using recess appointments to get around the various roadblocks Reid put in place to delay confirming Bush's nominees?

Comments:

Majority Leader Thune owes us an explanation.

It is such a disgrace that President Trump cannot have his nominees have full-staff by now. Our Congress is such an inadequate lazy bunch who truly care nothing about our country. I received a copy of our Constitution in the mail recently from Dr. Ben Carson. It is hard to imagine our Congress being the authors of such a fine document. It took disciplline and intellectual ability and grace, and too many of these guys do nothing but play politics. They are so small-minded. I don't know why they don't retire so we can get some fresh blood in there.

I don't get it. What does Trump want--Senate to stay in session to approve his appointments or to recess so he can make his appointments. I know, he wants them approved but if the dims won't allow it, get the dimcoms out of DC so the the recess appointments can take hold. Lock the d---m doors.

The Democrats are now implacably self-destructive. They resemble nothing so much as a slowly capsizing ship, but show by their frenzied skullduggery that America is not in decline -- the opposition is rotten and hopeless but it still fights savagely. I hope readers will pardon a recitation of the party's gradual floundering. They pushed the nation into Vietnam, mismanaged the war, and deserted their own president (Lyndon Johnson), and when President Nixon saved their war, they crucified him on what can now be seen as the utterly absurd Watergate nonsense.

On the eve of the 2020 election, FBI agents discussed an active money-laundering case against Hunter Biden just hours after casting doubt on the authenticity of the incriminating laptop during meetings with social media companies, according to newly redacted FBI chat logs obtained by Sen. A longtime aide to former President Joe Biden admitted that the White House staff felt justified doing 'undemocratic things' because they believed President Donald Trump posed an existential threat to American democracy. The revelation came during an appearance by Axios reporter Alex Thompson on “Fox News Sunday” with Shannon Bream, where he discussed insider accounts from his reporting on the Biden administration. Thompson described a mindset inside the White House — one in which unelected aides saw themselves as the real decision makers while shielding Biden from scrutiny and managing the presidency behind the scenes

Although the President often touts his first term appointments to the court, the Trump appointees -- particularly Justices Kavanaugh and Barrett -- have often proven to be meddlesome obstacles to the implementation of his populist MAGA agenda.
