Cancel the 2028 L.A. Olympics

Original Article

This show must not go on. It’s time, right now, for greater Los Angeles to halt all preparations to host the 2028 Summer Olympics. Let’s turn over these Games to a world city better positioned to host them. Not because Angelenos don’t love the Olympics. We are a proud Olympic city, shaped by the 1932 and 1984 Games. In normal times, the city’s incomparable international connections, entertainment assets and sports facilities would make us the perfect host for what LA 28 chair Casey Wasserman calls “the largest peacetime gathering in the history of the world.” But it’s no longer peacetime in Los Angeles. This event is now too dangerous for California.

The best reason to cancel LA 2028 is that the city state does not have $$ to put it on.

(With smirk on my face and tongue firmly planted in cheek.) #2, At this point, I think the rest of the world will sympathize with the non-West Coast US. As the occidental world's elite enforce cultural suicide on its native populations via "replacements" from third-world hell-holes, it is becoming apparent that the only countries in the world with safe large cities having enough amenities to host an Olympics are in far east Asia. LA 2028 is a third world hellhole in the making and bears no resemblance to the LA of 1984 (let alone 1932). Problem for the Olympics is that Asians haven't lost their common sense and will quickly realize that hosting the Olympics is a burden they'd rather not bear. Ultimately, the Olympics will have to be scaled down in size so as to "fit" into safer mid-sized urban areas... or else go out of business altogether.

AOC led the "successful" campaign to keep Amazon jobs out of New York. Lefties led the "successful" campaign to keep the MLB All-Star game out of Atlanta. Joe Mathews here is simply following the same high-minded, self-righteous gameplan. I'd be content for the Olympics to find a home in a more agreeable state. Texas, say. The left, exampled here by Mr. Mathews, is far too stupid to be in charge of any good thing, especially something likely to show pride of country with flags and frequent airing of the National Anthem. Sheesh. As if Biden didn't do enough to disgrace the name Joe.

If it stays in L.A. you know we're going to have to bail them out financially anyway, so let's just cut the crap now and save all the accounting mumbo-jumbo.

Read the article. "National Special Security Events, like the Olympics, require host cities to let federal agencies take the lead during the Games. For the 2028 Olympics, an agreement, which took effect last year, puts the U.S. Secret Service in charge of security, with support from the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security. All those agencies work for President Donald Trump, who has launched a war against California that includes deploying troops and secret federal police in our neighborhoods. California leaders have righteously demanded that immigration raids end and the troops leave. But those demands are incompatible with the Olympics agreement, which gives these agencies the power to surge security personnel into Los Angeles." This is ultra-liberal anti-Trump pro-illegal immigrants San Francisco opining that Trump is going to use the Olympics to attack California because of the security required for the Olympics. You guys are letting your CDS cloud your vision.

He brings up every talking point he's been fed by CNN and MSNBC types over the past few years. The good news from the article, the Secret Service takes over security for the Olympics based on an agreement signed a year ago (prior to Trump becoming POTUS) which means it will likely be firm security for everyone. As far as Trump "taking over LA" he only sent U.S. troops to protect the Federal buildings which ensured another Portland situation didn't take place which the City of LA didn't seem to be bothered by.

Some in the industry were shocked and upset. Matson, after all, has never had a ship sink as a result of an EV fire. What are they worried about? But there have been three especially severe EV fires on cargo ships in just the past three years: the Felicity Ace in 2022, the Fremantle Highway in 2023, and most recently, the Morning Midas in 2025, each fire destroying thousands of vehicles each along with much or all of the vessels.

“War is hell,” as William Tecumseh Sherman famously observed, but it is also theater. War is a staple of movies, literature, and religion due to its ability to encapsulate universal themes of good versus evil, courage, sacrifice, and the human condition. It is ubiquitous in human history. Who has not heard of the War in Heaven? War features in the Iliad, the Koran, the Bhagavad Gita, not to mention Shakespeare, War and Peace, The Lord of the Rings, and countless movies and drama serials. It’s definitely theater: ironically it's the history of our lives. Not surprisingly warfare itself employs dramatic devices. One of the oldest is performative cruelty.
