WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — California is bracing for the closure of two major oil refineries, including one in the Bay Area. State lawmakers are sounding the alarm on what that could mean for gas prices. At just under $5 per gallon in Walnut Creek, some drivers are forking out over $100 to fill up the tank. With two refineries preparing to shut down, that’s expected to drive up prices. In the East Bay, the Valero Benicia Refinery is expected to close in April 2026. Down in Southern California, owners of the Phillips 66 refinery are also planning to stop operations

Further complication is that CA has a special blend (greenies) and out of state refineries might not want to do regular and CA blends.

Californians don't seen to understand that making your state dependent upon outside sources of energy upon which the state burdens with ridiculous regulations means the energy suppliers won't do business in the state, thus eliminating the kind of free-market competition that keeps supplies plentiful and prices low. Reduce supply to below normal demand levels and prices will rise. This is Economics 101 at its simplest. Californians who have made it a one-party state are the most simple-minded of simpletons, however. Learn the hard way, then, California. Learn the hard way.

That would be gas prices in CALIFORNIA only. Out here in Free America, we'll be unaffected.
Enjoy what you voted for Californians. And, yes, I know that many folks living in California didn't vote for it.
But, either the majority did vote for these lunatics, or the system is so crooked that it appears that way.

Brought to you by Jerry Brown, Arnold Schwarzenkennedy, and Gavin 'Gel Helmet' Newsom - along with the super majority Dem controlled legislature. They have been hounding the oil companies in CA for decades - making it impossible to do business. At this point, there is nothing the legislature can do to stop Big Oil from leaving. Expect the state to grind to a halt, prices of everything to skyrocket, businesses large and small to leave, or parish. Sacramento has succeeded in screwing the pooch. People aren't going to buy EV's, so its bicycles or walk - take your choice. In addition, expect the legislature to impose registration fees on bicycles, along with license plates - as well as ban individual bicycle pumps to fill tires with air. You'll have to keep your ties inflated with state operated air nozzles - for a fee, of course!! Hey, the state has to make up those lost vehicle registration and gas tax loses.

California refineries cannot operate at a profit, under current Ca. taxes, penalties, and regulations recently passed by Sacramento, so they are closing. Goodbye, Ca. The departure from Ca. is turning into a stampede.

We will also be subjected to higher gas prices in NV because we depend on the refineries in CA. Thanks again for nothing, Newsom and you other idiots.

I'm so glad I left California last year. It just gets crazier every day.
California has an initiative process so it's possible to bypass the legislature and get sane things done.
When it gets bad enough, the citizens will take care of things.

Inch by inch, CA is turning into a state where fewer and fewer people will do business with it.

Completely self-inflicted. problem. And this doesn't take into account unexpected refinery shutdowns that occur without warning.
