Murdoch family fights to keep succession
battle secret as Nevada hearings loom

The Murdoch family succession drama enters a new phase in a Reno, Nevada, courtroom this week when patriarch Rupert Murdoch will probably argue that plans by three of his children to potentially change the business model of the news-communications empire will damage the interests of Fox Corp shareholders. Murdoch wants to give all voting power to his oldest son, Lachlan. If his plans are accepted, Murdoch’s other adult children will lose their voting power.

Comments:

Wish Rupert best of luck. Son James quit work at the newspaper over editorial decisions, and is working with a group of other billionaires to elect Kamala Harris.

Murdoch should have thought about protecting the value of his business over a decade ago, as much of the audience of Fox has moved on.

A top election official in Arizona said he would file a suit Tuesday that could bar almost 100,000 residents from voting in state and local races this fall, claiming they have not provided citizenship documents required under state law. The planned suit from Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer is related to Arizona election law that requires residents to provide documents that prove citizenship to vote in state and local elections. Such documents are not required for Arizona residents to register to vote or cast a ballot in federal elections. [T]he affected group of voters will still be able to vote in Arizona's key presidential and Senate races this year.

Linda C., a retired deputy sheriff in California, considers herself politically independent. She voted for former President Donald Trump in 2016 and then for President Joe Biden in 2020. But this year, she feels strongly about supporting the Democratic ticket, largely because of the stances Republicans, including Trump's running mate, Sen. JD Vance, have taken on childcare. She was particularly perturbed by Vance's recent suggestion that grandparents and other family members "help out a little bit more" with childrearing to relieve the burden of childcare costs.

The IDF eliminated several Hamas commanders of the Tel Al-Sultan Battalion during joint operations between the IDF and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), the military said on Tuesday. The commander of Hamas’s Tel Al-Sultan Battalion, Mahmoud Hamdan, and three additional company commanders from the battalion were reportedly killed. Hamadan played a significant role in the October 7 massacre, according to the IDF. Soldiers from 401st Brigade identified terrorist squads using drones and directed air force aircraft towards them. This attack, along with additional strikes, effectively dismantled the command chain of the Tel Al Sultan Battalion and killed dozens of other terrorists from the battalion.

Former President Donald Trump asked a federal court late Thursday to intervene in his New York hush money criminal case, seeking a pathway to overturn his felony conviction and indefinitely delay his sentencing next month. Lawyers for the current Republican nominee asked the federal court in Manhattan to seize the case from the state court where it was tried, arguing that the historic prosecution violated his constitutional rights and ran afoul of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent presidential immunity ruling.

Canada, following the lead of the United States and European Union, said on Monday it would impose a 100% tariff on imports of Chinese electric vehicles and announced a 25% tariff on imported steel and aluminum from China. The duties apply to all EVs shipped from China, which would include those made by Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab, a Canadian government official said. Canadian imports of automobiles from China to its largest port, Vancouver, jumped 460% year over year to 44,356 in 2023, when Tesla started shipping Shanghai-made EVs to Canada. "I think we all know that China is not playing by the same rules," he told reporters.

A Kansas judge has dismissed federal machine gun possession charges, including for having a "Glock switch," citing the Second Amendment and recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings in gun rights cases. U.S. District Judge John Broomes on Wednesday dismissed two counts of unlawful possession of a machine gun against Tamori Morgan. Morgan had been indicted by a grand jury in April 2023 in U.S. District Court in Wichita. Broomes wrote that the prosecution "fails to meet its burden to demonstrate that possession of the types of weapons at issue in this case are lawfully prohibited under the Second Amendment."

The strange saga of how two Mexican drug lords were detained after landing in a plane in the United States in July just got stranger. The Mexican government now says it is bringing charges against Joaquín Guzmán López, but not because he was a leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel founded by his father, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. Instead, Mexican prosecutors are bringing charges against the younger Guzmán for apparently kidnapping Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada — an older drug boss from a rival faction of the cartel — forcing him onto the plane and flying to an airport near El Paso, Texas.

A federal appeals court ruled that Minnesota's law that bans people ages 18 to 20 from obtaining permits to carry guns is unconstitutional, prompting criticism over Governor Tim Walz's stance on the Second Amendment. "As a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, I welcome the federal appeals court's decision regarding Minnesota's law. This ruling affirms the constitutional rights of all law-abiding citizens to bear arms," Republican Minnesota Rep. Pete Stauber said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "It is crucial, especially at a time when crime rates are a concern, that individuals have the means to protect themselves and their families."

Eight years later, having learned nothing from the epic public humiliation she suffered when her fact-free Russiagate hoax collapsed into itself with the Mueller Report, Rachel Maddow is still asserting “election interference.” Hillary Clinton is eager to assist her in her Red Scare propaganda efforts. Ironically, Hillary is now demanding criminal prosecutions for her opponents’ alleged propaganda — and not just foreign state actors, but explicitly “Americans,” presumably private citizens who post loosely defined “misinformation” on social media.

Sky News Arabia quotes sources saying that today’s large-scale pager attack in Lebanon was possible because the Mossad spy agency got hold of Hezbollah’s communication devices before they were handed over to the terror group. The Israeli spy agency placed a quantity of PETN, a highly explosive material, on the batteries of the devices, and detonated them by raising the temperature of the batteries from afar, the source says. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier that some Hezbollah members felt their pagers heating up and disposed of them before the series of explosions that killed at least nine and injured about 2,800 people.
