An eight-time Seattle felon allegedly carjacked and killed a beloved 80-year-old dog walker in broad daylight Tuesday before he fatally stabbed her precious pup. Jahmed Haynes, 48, is suspected of carjacking Ruth Dalton, 80, near the intersection of Martin Luther King Junior Way East and East Harrison Street in the Madison Valley neighborhood, 2.8 miles northeast of downtown Seattle, just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to Seattle police. SPD Deputy Chief Eric Barden says Haynes had gotten into the passenger side of Dalton’s blue Subaru SUV and attempted to push her out the driver’s door while at least two dogs were inside the vehicle.

Comments:

The murder happened on Martin Luther King Jr. Way. As Chris Rock famously said - - "If you find your self on Martin Luther King Blvd. - - you're in the wrong part of town." But don't worry about Jahmed. KamaLOL will have him bailed out in no time.

It's why somebody I know carries a 9mm in his truck. He may not beat the carjackers, but worst case he loses. Best case, they see the barrel and scram. Imagine if all responsible drivers did the same - carjackings way down.

An elderly defenseless woman and a small bred gone... I don't think the law will be sufficient. Justice would be a mob, a rope, and a tree. A little jail time and early release for "good behavior" doesn't pay back his "debt to society". An "eight time felon" should never see the outside of a correctional facility.

Is there any place that still enforces "three strikes" laws for felons who rack up their third felony? Three violent felony convictions should be worthy of life in prison. These people are menaces. Carjackers ought to experience more "professional" failures after attempting to rob armed, prepared victims, and getting themselves shot. If their risk becomes too elevated, they may have to sit down and regret their life choices, or lie down involuntarily after being cut down by a defensive bullet. That's not a nice way to go.

A conservative-backed push for stricter proof-of-citizenship requirements for voting could complicate efforts to avert a government shutdown next month. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have acknowledged a stopgap of some kind, also known as a continuing resolution (CR), will be necessary to keep the government funded past Sept. 30. But calls are growing among House conservatives to use that must-pass measure to force consideration of a partisan bill aimed at barring noncitizens from voting — laying the groundwork for a clash with the Democratic-led Senate, which would likely reject such a package.

California does not require identification to vote, but earlier this year, the City of Huntington Beach approved a voter ID requirement for municipal elections starting in 2026. This bill would override Huntington Beach’s policy. “An overwhelming body of evidence proves that voter ID laws only subvert voter turnout and create barriers to law abiding voters,” wrote bill author State Sen.
