Monday’s Lester Holt interview with President Biden shows that Joe’s damage-control press tour just keeps on doing more damage — it went far worse than his heart-to-heart with George Stephanopoulos. For starters, Biden couldn’t even bring himself to fully apologize for saying Dems should put Donald Trump in a “bull’s-eye,” instead lamely insisting, “I didn’t say crosshairs.” Cold comfort (and bad taste) indeed, after Trump was nearly felled by an assassin’s bullet.

Embattled Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle says she has no plans to resign, even after the stunning revelation that the agency decided not to guard the roof from which Thomas Crooks opened fire on former President Donald Trump because it was too slanted. “That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof,” she told ABC News in a startling admission.“And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside,” she told the outlet.

This Grand Slam champ slammed her royal friends — but it was all in jest. Serena Williams poked fun at pals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the 2024 ESPY Awards on Thursday night, accusing them of overshadowing her appearance at the event. The tennis legend hosted the awards show at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, where Harry was being honored with the Pat Tillman Award for Service. Taking to the stage, Williams told the crowd that the Sussexes were in the audience, before stating: “Please, Harry and Meghan, try not to breathe too much tonight.”

President Biden’s world-shatteringly bad debate performance Thursday has Democrats and their media allies abuzz with the idea of replacing him. But as the whispers fly, remember that the people behind any such putsch would be the same as those who’ve been lying to everyone by insisting that Joe’s just fine the whole time. Incredibly, after Thursday night, they’re still lying.

Surrounded by dozens of teachers-union officials on the steps of the Pennsylvania state Capitol this month, Democratic state Sen. Lindsey Williams excoriated a proposed K-12 education-voucher program. She called it a conspiracy by racist, religious fundamentalists bent on destroying public education by driving “straight, white, able-bodied kids into private religious schools.” The next day, a group of black religious leaders gathered in the state Capitol to tell Gov. Josh Shapiro to support the voucher program, called the Pennsylvania Award for Student Success. And later that same day, Jay-Z announced he will fund a campaign to mobilize support for the legislation in Philadelphia

President Biden and former President Trump faced off on the CNN presidential debate stage Thursday night, but suggested another showdown--this time, in an unlikely setting. The golf course. During the CNN Presidential Debate, CNN moderator Dana Bash presented the age Biden and Trump would be at the end of a potential second term. Biden would be 86. Trump would be 82. Biden defended his age, saying he "spent half my career being criticized about being the youngest person in politics. I was the second youngest person ever elected to the United States Senate, and now I’m the oldest. This guy is three years younger and a lot less competent."

HWASEONG, South Korea — A lithium battery factory in South Korea was set on fire after multiple batteries exploded on Monday, killing 22 workers, most of them Chinese nationals, fire officials said. The fire and a series of explosions ripped through the factory run by primary battery manufacturer Aricell in Hwaseong, an industrial cluster southwest of the capital Seoul. The victims likely succumbed to extremely toxic gas within seconds of the blaze getting out of control, the officials said. It was unclear what caused the explosions and the fire was largely extinguished in about six hours.

A newly promoted Biden administration official has come under fire over old social media posts that compared police to “slave patriots” and celebrated the anti-Israel movement. Department of Interior worker Tyler Cherry’s incendiary tweets began to re-emerge shortly after he was promoted last week to join the White House communications team. Cherry, who spent three years working under Secretary of the Inferior Deb Haaland, wrote in 2015 amid the death of Freddie Gray, a black man who died in police custody, “Praying for #Baltimore, but praying even harder for an end to a capitalistic police state motivated by explicit and implicit racial biases.”

CNN abruptly cut Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt from the air Monday morning — just days before the network is set to host the first presidential debate between her boss and President Joe Biden. Anchor Kasie Hunt pulled the plug just minutes after the interview got underway after asking Leavitt what former President Donald Trump’s strategy was for when he takes to the stage in Atlanta, Ga. on Thursday. “President Trump is well prepared ahead of Thursday’s debates. Unlike Joe Biden, he doesn’t have to hide away and have his advisors tell him what to say. President Trump knows what he wants to say,” Leavitt started.

Young people have long leaned left. But some Gen Zers — including those raised in progressive homes — are questioning the status quo and realizing they’re not actually Democrats. Although more than half of Gen Z do not identify with a political party, more than a fifth (21%) identify as Republican. The Post spoke to four young voters who left the left about their political journeys:

The left-leaning fact checking website Snopes acknowledged Saturday that former President Trump never called neo-Nazis “very fine people” during his press conference following the Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally in 2017. Critics of Trump have claimed for years that he equated neo-Nazis with counterprotesters following the event. President Biden was chief among those critics, citing the supposed incident as a main reason for launching his 2020 campaign.
