Testifying in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday morning on Capitol Hill, FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate revealed the 20-year man who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump flew a drone over the Butler, Pennsylvania rally for 11 minutes before eventually firing shots -- hitting Trump in the ear, killing 50-year-old Corey Comperatore and severely wounding two others. Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe further explained that people fly drones "on the periphery of our events all of the time," but added protocol is to track down the individuals doing so in order to ascertain their intentions.

Katie honey, get that "one shooter" fantasy out of your head dear. At least three shooters, only one of whom was the incel with the AR.

Millions of drones purchased in the USA. Impossible to keep track of all of them. Many are too small and quiet to see until they are very close.
In the war in Ukraine, these difficulties with drone defenses have been worked on as a literal life and death issue for three years. Not a lot of good answers so far.
US major industrial companies are working on counterdrone systems. Some of their stuff works, sorta-kinda, with a lot of limitations.
There are no easy and simple answers to this particular problem, unfortunately. LOTS of smart folks working on it.

Sorry, #1, check your mirror for the fantasyland. One shooter.
People are really going totally off the rails here, sad to say.

So the shooter’s drone flew for 11 minutes over the rally site. Did the drone fly at a low enough altitude to be visible from the ground? When did the Secret Service become aware of this drone?

Re #4, previous reports say "near the rally site", they seem to indicate that it never flew over the rally site.
And if it was several hundred yards to the side.....most drones are a tan to white color, and about 12-18 inches, with skinny arms....damned hard to see and the sound is a buzzing that is completely lost in any road noise or similar normal sounds. I had a friend who flew one a few years ago, and it just would disappear at about 200 yards distance up in a sky with some clouds to make it lighter color. Maybe easier to see in a pure blue sky, I don't know.

For those unfamiliar with the ease of use and tracking automation built into these things, check this one out.
Watch some of the sample videos....I'll bet you will be surprised.
And the drone can transmit it's footage back up to 20 km, or 12 miles. Weighs 1/2 lb, folds to fit in your hand, gray color fades into the sky.
This one is $1000. https://www.amazon.com/DJI-Mini-Drone-Transmission-Distance-Omnidirectional/dp/B0CFF1SJ3P?tag=p00935-20&ascsubtag=07c7Zzfj7GkuEO8zprGuguc
A cheaper one is under $300, still transmits 6 miles and has significant capability for basic video surveillance.
