Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich finally touched down on US soil late Thursday night after spending more than a year in a hellish Russian prison — and becoming the first American journalist to be arrested for alleged spying since the Cold War.
The 32-year-old journalist — along with freed hostages Paul Whelan and Alsu Kurmasheva — landed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, where they were greeted by President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
The brave reporter shook hands with Biden and Harris as he briefly spoke with them and gave the commander in chief a hug before he was surrounded by jubilant family members for their long-awaited emotional reunion.
As RedState reported Wednesday, despite the fact that it has been eleven days since Vice President Kamala Harris effectively became the presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, she hasn't given one press conference or had any media interactions where she's actually taken any questions from reporters.
She has done other things, though, things that I think most people would describe as "weird." Interestingly, that is what many on her side have taken to calling Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), Donald Trump's vice presidential running mate, even though - last I checked - it wasn't JD Vance who pretended to have a southern accent and who campaigned and laughed

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was the principal organizer of the September 11 attacks that killed around 3,000 Americans. He has been held prisoner at Guantanamo Bay for more than two decades. Yesterday the Biden administration announced that it has reached a “plea deal” with KSM and two high-ranking al Qaeda confederates:
“In exchange for removal of the death penalty as a possible punishment, these three Accused have agreed to plead guilty to all of the charged offenses, including the murder of the 2,976 people listed in the charge sheet,”

Give full marks for integrity to the Wall Street Journal for this biting report on a prisoner swap they've long advocated. Their own reporter, Evan Gershkovich, got released after nearly 500 days of captivity over absurd espionage charges for reporting on Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine. The WSJ has every reason to paint the complicated, multi-national exchange in an entirely positive light.
And yet, the WSJ reports on the "dark figure" Putin really wanted back -- an assassin held in Germany who killed one of Putin's enemies in Berlin park five years ago, a Chechen separatist commander in exile:

The House Judiciary Committee on Thursday sent letters to more than 40 major companies in its ongoing probe of a left-leaning advertising cartel that has allegedly sought to defund news outlets and platforms, including The Post.

A New York appeals court on Thursday denied former president Donald Trump’s attempt to lift the partial gag order that prevents him from speaking publicly about prosecutors, court staff, and their families following his historic, 34-count conviction in the Stormy Daniels hush-money case.
A five-judge panel of the New York supreme court’s Appellate Division ruled in a three-page decision that the gag order should remain in place until Trump’s sentencing date, tentatively scheduled for September 18, because the case remains pending. Combined, both of these policies would result in massive numbers of middle-class Americans having more money in their bank accounts. The national economic benefits of these two combined policies are extremely significant and could actually offset the financial damage done by Joe Biden.

US prosecutors have reached a deal with 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the Pentagon said Wednesday, reportedly involving a guilty plea in exchange for avoiding a death penalty trial.
