Forty-six seconds. That was the sum total of time a female Italian boxer lasted in the ring at the Paris Olympics before she retired from a bout against against an Algerian fighter caught in an eligibility furore.
Twenty-five-year-old Imane Khalif was cleared to compete at the 2024 Olympics having earlier failed an unspecified testosterone level test. The contest Thursday between the mismatched pugilists shone fresh light on the controversy about athletes with abnormally high testosterone levels or other male characteristics being allowed to enter women’s sporting categories.

Critics of Vice President Kamala Harris claim she was only picked to be President Joe Biden’s running mate because of her race and the left’s goal of checking its DEI boxes.
Former President Donald Trump pointed just that out to a crowd during the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).
"I've known her for a long time, indirectly, not directly… and she was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage," Trump said. "I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black. And now she wants to be known as Black.

PARIS – Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who failed a gender eligibility test last year, won her opening bout at the Paris Olympics in just 46 seconds on Thursday against her distraught opponent.
Khelif advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's 66kg category after unloading two strong punches on Angela Carini, who shrugged off attempts by the Algerian to shake her hand and collapsed to her knees in floods of tears.
An Italian coach said Carini had suffered a badly hurt nose and the official decision was listed as an abandonment.
Khelif and Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting, who fights on Friday at 57kg, were disqualified from the world championships

This is a very significant policy proposal. President Trump is supporting a position that Seniors should not pay taxes on Social Security income. This comes on the heels of President Trump supported policy that income received from service tips should not be taxed.
Combined, both of these policies would result in massive numbers of middle-class Americans having more money in their bank accounts. The national economic benefits of these two combined policies are extremely significant and could actually offset the financial damage done by Joe Biden.
The timing of this announcement coincides with President Trump visiting Chicago.

Imane Khelif has won her first bout after Italian opponent Angela Carini abandoned their bout after 46 seconds - with the Algerian boxer cleared to compete in the women's event amid an eligibility row. Carini was punched twice by Khelif in the opening round of their women's welterweight bout in Paris. The blows appeared to knock off the Italian boxer's chin strap, with the fighter moving over to her corner. Carini returned to the centre of the ring and abandoned the bout, leading to Khelif being declared as the winner.

Freudian slip?
Vice President Kamala Harris accidentally called herself the “president” Thursday while delivering a eulogy for late Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), causing the crowd to go wild as she repeatedly corrected herself.
Harris, standing beside Democratic leaders including Bill and Hillary Clinton, was speaking in Houston about the late congresswoman’s long career in public service. She recalled that Jackson Lee introduced legislation to make Juneteenth – the day marking the end of slavery in the US – a federal holiday.
“Which as a US Senator, I was proud to co-sponsor and then as presi–” Harris said about her role in getting the bill through, before correcting herself.

Former CNN host Don Lemon is suing billionaire Elon Musk and X for abruptly canceling their agreement for Lemon to host a show on the platform.
Lemon filed a complaint Thursday in San Francisco court, accusing X of using Lemon’s stardom to boost the platform’s reputation, and failing to compensate him in accordance with the terms of the deal.
“Contrary to the promises and representations made to Lemon, once Defendants were enriched and gained the benefits of using Lemon’s name, likeness, identity, and reputation, they reneged on their express agreement with Lemon and have failed to compensate him, citing to false pretenses for their breach of the partnership agreement,” the lawsuit reads.

Republicans are just waking up to the horror that they’ve been had.
The Trump campaign seems blindsided by Kamala Harris. Having avoided the ordeal of a primary, Harris dances onto the national scene appearing well-rested and unscathed. In polls, she is already tied with Trump—erasing his sizable lead in just one week.
Scrambling to make sense of what just happened, J.D. Vance has called her extra-democratic appointment a “coup.” He has suggested it cheated voters out of the chance to pick their own nominee. But a “coup” involves regime change. This switcheroo involved none. That’s why you don’t see members of the Biden administration objecting.

US prosecutors have reached a deal with 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the Pentagon said Wednesday, reportedly involving a guilty plea in exchange for avoiding a death penalty trial.
The agreements with Mohammed and two other accused moves their long-running cases toward resolution. These have been bogged down in pre-trial maneuverings for years while the defendants remained held at the Guantanamo Bay military base in Cuba. A Pentagon statement said no details of the deal would be immediately made public at this time, but the New York Times reported

The two illegal Jordanian migrants who are charged with trying to breach Marine Corps Base Quantico in May posted thousands of dollars in bail and were allowed to leave federal custody, The Post can exclusively reveal.
Hasan Yousef Hamdan, 32, and Mohammad Khair Dabous, 28, were released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention despite their immigration status — Hamdan had crossed into the country illegally in April and Dabous had overstayed his student visa and is subject to removal proceedings, law enforcement sources told The Post.
They were arrested on May 3 for trespassing onto the military installation and handed over to ICE officers because of their immigration statuses.

Imprisoned American journalist Evan Gershkovich will be freed from a Russian prison Thursday as part of a prisoner swap with Moscow, according to reports.
Gershkovich will return to the US after spending 16 months in Moscow’s notorious Lefortovo Prison alongside serial killers and other political prisoners, sources told Bloomberg News.
A senior Biden administration also told ABC News that Gershkovich will be released alongside former US Marine Paul Whelan in the extraordinary deal.

The conventional description of the American political system holds that Republicans represent the rich. Democrats, by contrast, are said to represent the “little guy,” including blue-collar workers and low-income minorities. The most Interesting thing about Donald Trump’s foray into politics is that he would like to turn that picture upside down. So maybe this is a good time to ask: Why do people vote the way they do?It’s certainly hard to square the conventional view with the way many sophisticated people vote. Among high-income voters, almost as many identify as Democrat as Republican. In general, the higher the level of education, the more liberal people say they are;
Comments:
So the first night of the convention is scheduled to last about 5 minutes. This is good because it barely upsets Biden's working hours.
