Vice President Kamala Harris caused a wave of criticism on social media after appearing to suddenly use a southern accent during a speech in Atlanta. "You all helped us win in 2020 and we gonna do it again in 2024," Harris, who is from California, told Atlanta rally goers while seemingly debuting the new accent. The accent immediately caught the attention of critics on social media, who accused the presumptive Democratic nominee of pandering to her audience.

I was born in California, but lived in the south from mid grade school through college and grad school. I have a pretty much neutral, sort of midwestern accent. However....when I lived in the south, I did pick up a bit of a southern accent, but it's pretty much gone after 45 years in the midwest. And my parents were from the midwest, A lot of my relatives live in the south, now. It seems insulting to do this, especially if you are totally faking it. If I were to slip into it when in Georgia or Mississippi where relatives live....it wouldn't be out of character, just slipping back into old speech patterns of my youth. But for Harris, this is a total fake.

Dems are good at being condescending and insulting to their listeners. Talking with a fake accent is presumptive. It’s like a gringo talking “Spanish” by saying “el fake-o.”

Had a GOP candidate tried this, the legacy networks would be raking them over the coals every day until an apology (or even a withdrawal) occurred. Everything about her past is being reworked, even her sleazy affair with Willie Brown. The U.S. Secret Service has hinted it was not involved in the break-in of a hair salon during a Kamala Harris campaign event in Massachusetts late last month. The allegations of Secret Service involvement arose after the salon’s owner, Alicia Powers, alleged that agents put duct tape over her security cameras and broke into her building by picking the lock. Security camera footage shows an individual dressed like a Secret Service agent approaching the door with a roll of tape and observing the locked door and camera before grabbing a nearby chair to put tape over the camera.

Clark tied a WNBA rookie record with seven three-pointers, joining Crystal Robinson as the only players to make that many shots from behind the arc in their first year in the league. Her seven 3s were also the most in a game in Fever history, breaking Tamika Catchings' record of six in 2002.

Washington — The U.S. economy grew at a sluggish 1.3% annual pace from January through March, the weakest quarterly rate since the spring of 2022, the government said Thursday in a downgrade from its previous estimate. Consumer spending rose but at a slower pace than previously thought. The Commerce Department had previously estimated that the nation’s gross domestic product — the total output of goods and services — expanded at a 1.6% rate last quarter. The first quarter’s GDP growth marked a sharp slowdown from the vigorous 3.4% rate in the final three months of 2023.

President Biden repeated a claim about turning down an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy, where he purportedly wanted to play football, during his commencement address at West Point on Saturday. Biden told West Point graduates that Republican Sen. J. Caleb Boggs, whom he defeated to become a U.S. senator, had "appointed" him to the Naval Academy years before they ran against each other in 1972. The president recounted that before his interview, "I found out two days earlier they had a quarterback named Roger Staubach, and a halfback named Joe Bellino. And I said, I'm not going there. Washington—A Senate border bill that was previously blocked by Republicans is seeing dwindling support among members of both parties ahead of another expected vote this week. During its last floor vote in February, the legislation failed to advance in a 49-50 vote due to opposition from both Democrats and Republicans. It would need 60 votes to overcome the filibuster threshold. As Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) forges ahead with another vote on the legislation planned for May 23, details about which amendments, if any, will be allowed remain unclear.
