Sometimes People Aren’t Merely Misguided.
They Really Are Evil

Original Article

A difficult concept to explain to ordinary people is that some people and some ideas are unadulterated evil, not just in their implementation but in their conception. Most of us are unfamiliar with evil because we spend much time and effort staying as far away as possible. There’s also an impulse to humanize others. Many want to believe the best in people and trivialize or gloss over readily observable behaviors that might lead to seeing a person as evil. People misinterpret evil acts as separate and apart from having an evil soul. Hitler is a perfect example of pure evil despite a superficial handful of humanizing qualities.

Comments:

He makes the point that the worst thing we do is tolerating evil in our midst. He's right about that.

Saying that someone is "stupid" or "misguided" or "sick" when they are actually evil is making excuses for evil rather than pointing out that it IS evil and opposing it unconditionally.

My understanding is that this was not the author's intent, but to me the true lesson from the Wizard of Oz is: Evil is not to be tolerated or constrained, but instead confronted and destroyed. I certainly think that applies here as well.

Pilate asked Jesus "what is truth?" Jesus probably remained silent for the same reason you don't explain the punch line to a joke - if you have to explain it the other person doesn't, and won't, get it. Honest people know what is good and what is true when they are in its presence and no amount of word games changes that. Evil is a negation of the Golden Rule and doesn't make us animals it makes us lower than animals, entities capable of doing and demanding things that not even Satan in Hell has been accused of. We are at a moment in history where "evil" and "untruth" reign in the Western world. What to do? A sentence I read in a book recently points to where our likely Calvary will be: "And one must be willing to walk straight into a concentration camp just for the sake of meeting with friends." We were never told that it would be easy only what would be required - pick up your cross and follow me.

You'll be fine #10 - we will all soon be faced with collaborating of not. Your resonance with my quote means you will not be a willing collaborator and therefore will not ignore what is coming. And when that time comes we will take each other's hand and walk where Jesus would walk - in beauty and truth knowing that to do otherwise would be beneath Him and what we expect of ourselves. What is the worse that could happen - people outside the concentration camp would get mad at us, we'd be on a one way road to financial and physical ruin (as Woody Allen said "death is a great way to lower expenses") or we would have to live with ourselves if we prayed that this burden was passed onto someone else because we were afraid to look into the eyes of those we left alone to rot. I toured Dachau 50 years ago and what I experienced there has haunted me ever since - no one in those circumstances should be left alone, they desperately need to be in the presence of humans who who aren't lower than animals, those who know what evil is and can look it in the eye without flinching because even the camp guards need to be reminded of what they truly were and are and not what they became out of fear. You'll recognize me as the old man with a glint in his eye, a determination in his step and the need to hold another human's hand as we wander where even angels fear to tread (maybe that is why God made humans). Tally Ho!

Minneapolis: the consent decree is dead 2 replies

In Minneapolis’ consent decree suicide I wrote of the consent decree that Biden’s Handler’s Administration, in the waning days of that corrupt administration, tried to impose on the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD). If enacted, it would have branded the MPD as systemically racist and made it all but impossible to do its job, particularly where minority criminals were concerned. It would have allowed the federal DOJ, through a monitor hired at some $750,000 per year, to daily micromanage the MPD. Such consent decrees are essentially eternal. Implementation and paperwork mandates would have cost Minneapolis far more than a mere $750,000 per year.

In 2020, the United States faced the shock of a new pandemic -- but also a baffling medical mystery: the disappearance of the seasonal flu. While COVID-19 cases dominated headlines and hospital beds, flu diagnoses plummeted to "too low to estimate," according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with later estimates at a mere 2000. That’s not just a statistical anomaly -- it’s a statistical impossibility. From an estimated 48 million cases in 2019–2020, the flu dropped to 2000 cases, statistically zero, in 2020–2021, amounting to a 99.999998% decrease --

In a recent article in the Wall Street Journal entitled, “Clean Energy Is Under Attack Even Where It’s Booming”, the author, Jennifer Hiller, bemoans the loss of tax credits for clean-electricity generation which are set to vanish under a plan proposed last week by congressional Republicans. She quotes Jason Grumet, a lobbyist with American Clean Power as saying, “The practical effect is an abrupt repeal of these incentives that translates into significant tax hikes that are going to freeze investment”. When I hear Jason confess that without tax breaks all investment in wind and solar would come to a screeching halt

Sara Brenner, worked as a career employee at the FDA until she was recently promoted to the No. 2 position under the new FDA Commissioner. Marty Makary. Brenner has recently stated that she never took the COVID vaccine despite it being a requirement for federal employees. Brenner’s reasoning was that she was pregnant and concerned about the safety of the vaccine for both her and her child. Perhaps she arrived at that conclusion because she’s an expert on nanobiotechnology (although the picture she provided at the link is a curious choice), and therefore had serious and fully legitimate clinical reservations.

Pressured by legal action from seventeen states that would have been impacted, California has agreed to not just drop enforcement of its electric truck mandate, but to repeal it entirely. Following the governor’s 2020 executive order that banned the sales of new internal-combustion engine cars in 2035, the state Air Resources Board devised two years ago a “world-leading regulation to phase out the sales of medium and heavy-duty combustion trucks in California by 2036.” But the rule would have reached far beyond California’s borders, says Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers, who leads the 17-state coalition that challenged the Advanced Clean Fleets rule.

We've posted about remittances to Mexico in the past. It's a big number and the top source of cash for Mexico after oil and tourism revenues. It's US$ 63 billion, a lot of money, to say the least. It's also a lot of money leaving the U.S., specially from towns and communities that could use the funds to support local services. [snip] Remittances, one of Mexico’s main sources of foreign currency, are now in the crosshairs of U.S. tax policy. A U.S. House of Representatives committee on Wednesday approved a proposal to impose a 5% tax on remittances.

In 1980, I was a forester working for the Idaho Department of Lands in the northern backcountry. On Sunday, May 18th, a few of us were having a barbecue. It was a beautiful, bright day with a clear blue sky. Suddenly, we noticed an ominous black cloud coming over the back of the mountain to our west. It didn’t look natural. The cloud expanded as it moved eastward, soon covering the entire sky, and it became so dark that the streetlights came on. It was early afternoon, and yet it was as dark as midnight. We were terrified.

One subject that renewable advocates are averse to discussing is asset utilization and I can understand why. Capacity factors, which are a measure of asset utilization, plummet when renewables enter the picture. As a typical example look at Red Eléctrica de España (REE). In 2024, it had capacity factors for wind, solar, and natural gas of 22%, 17%, and 16%, respectively. In essence, REE possessed three expensive assets that were grossly underutilized. If it discarded the wind and solar, the natural gas capacity factor would rise to 64%. Moreover, even with the price of natural gas being four times (4x) more in Spain than in Texas

The proposal appears to accept the idea that Crimea was once part of Russia and that returning it to Russia would restore historical justice. This logic is not just politically reckless, it is historically and legally indefensible. It echoes the imperial narrative Putin himself has long advanced: that modern Russia is the rightful heir to the entire Russian Empire[snip] Crimea was never part of Russia, and the Russian Federation is not a successor to the entire Russian Empire.

ey Newly declassified documents from a 2019 FBI analysis released on May 28, 2025 show that Nellie Ohr allegedly “knowingly“ provided false testimony under oath to Congress about her actions related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. Ohr was a Fusion GPS contractor who provided research and intel in the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, played a central role in pushing for declassification of the analysis. An analysis of the documents concluded that Ohr’s statements obstructed congressional investigations and violated federal statutes 18 USC §1001 (false statements) and 18 USC §1505 (obstruction of proceedings before departments, agencies, and congressional committees).

They’re just using too many darn multisyllabic, academic-sounding words and turning off numbskull voters, is the basic message. Seriously? The Democrats’ problem isn’t linguistic, it’s ideological. But no one in the party wants to admit that. A Washington Post story this week – “Democratic troubles revive debate over left-wing buzzwords” – begins by saying: Maybe it’s using the word ‘oligarchs’ instead of rich people. Trump promised his voters across-the-board tax cuts while campaigning, but once confronted with the difficult math of paying for his expensive agenda, the president — and some members of the GOP caucus — began to wobble. So long as Senate Republicans stick with their colleagues in the lower chamber and avoid adding tax hikes to the “big, beautiful” bill, they’ll avoid paying a steep political price at the ballot box.
