In 2023, Germany shuttered its last nuclear plant, and in 2024, wind energy became the nation’s largest single source of electricity, supplying 31.9%. But now it’s 2025, and as the staff at Remix News reported yesterday, “Germany’s wind lull is slamming electricity production” and creating losses in the millions.
Here’s the story:
Germany: Wind power firms face millions in losses as wind speed drops to 50-year low
The wind speed average has dropped below less than 5.5 meters per second in the first quarter of 2025, according to [the] German Meteorological Service (DWD).

The German Experts could keep bloviating and probably make up
the difference they need.

A few days ago, we drove across Kansas, and saw the usual eyesores of dozens and dozens of the giant windmills. BUT, a new 'feature'. MANY of them, say half at least, had dark, ugly brown stains on the blade root areas and on the top of the towers. The pattern clearly shows oil leaking from the blade hubs and from the tower rotation joints. Seals going bad and oil leaking out. So now.....will it be cost effective to bring in giant 300 foot cranes to pull out the blades and replace seals that are about 6-7 feet in diameter? If the seals are bad, and the lube oil has leaked out, did this damage the giant 7 foot diameter bearings? Will these things need to pull the power house off of the tower to replace those leaking seals?
Will they just be abandoned, giant monuments to stupidity and wasted money? We noted that almost none of them were turning, dozens and dozens in Kansas, not turning? Broken down?
This will be interesting to see. The scam starts to literally fall apart.

Yep, real geniuses at work putting up all these ugly windmills, unreliable windmills that is. West Texas has WAY too many.
Solar panels aren't much better. Case in point would be a large solar farm, I believe it's north of Huntsville Texas just don't remember the location. Anyways, one day a couple years ago there was a hail storm. It completely trashed this large farm of solar panels. I haven't heard whether they fixed/replaced all the damaged solar panels, but am sure taxpayers took it in the shorts one way or the other. And that's not even mentioning the detriment to the power grid. SMDH

In the spirit of international diplomacy I hereby offer Germany all the horrible wind that has been ceaselessly through my place for the last four days.

I’m sure feeling much safer now that Frau Merkel and the other German Geniuses shut down all of their nuclear reactors because of their concern that a Fukushima nuclear incident might occur, like in Japan.
I was really, really worried about a tsunami and tidal wave hitting mostly landlocked Germany

I just know it, that somewhere, Trump made the wind stop! It's his fault!
Seriously, though, a bit of green energy here n there isn't bad when used intelligently and as an extra, not primary source of power. Put solar in very sunny places, put wind in very windy places, hydro on huge rivers, and so on. But the idea that we can replace reliable energy sources we fully control with random weather based energy is just stupid.
I have a large solar array on my house, batteries, etc. At current rates it will pay for itself in about 10 years and the batteries mean I get through all the power outages we have a lot of in my area without losing power. However, I am still quite happily connected to the grid and wouldn't cut myself off for any reason. The solar zeros my monthly bill and is a nice backup to the flakey grid in my area but it would be a stupid primary power source.

Read a report last week about how wind farms steal wind (reduce wind speeds) from those down wind, sometimes for dozens of miles. So the more wind farms the slower the over all speeds.

What do they have to do to restart the nuclear plant?

Not to worry, fellow L-dotters, because France's many nuclear plants (built with French taxpayer money) have been "nationalized" as EU property now, so Germans who made dumb green energy decisions will escape consequences for their stupidity as France's nuke plants supply the power that keep Germans warm in winter and cool in summer. Best of all (/ sarc on), when President Macron of France signed the order assigning ownership of the plants to the EU, an Enron-like entity was set up in Europe to sell that electricity, from which well-placed members of the French and EU governments are profiting for being nothing other than middlemen. Everyone seems pleased with the arrangement, (/ sarc off) except for tax-paying Frenchmen, who are now paying 8x for electricity what they were paying before the ownership reassignment.

Wouldn't it be funny to ultimately discover that the presence of wind turbines removing energy from the passing breezes actully decreases the overall wind velocity for years to come?

When I was growing up, I thought that Germans were known for their practicality and common sense. This was dispelled when I took a bus ride through that country last year and saw miles and miles of arable land covered up with solar panels. I wondered were any of the crops were being grown to feed these people who had become deranged. Where are they supposed to get their food?
