The NCAA and the Big Ten Conference leadership approved a $2.8 billion groundbreaking settlement of antitrust claims that promises to usher in a chaotic and lucrative era in college sports. Four other conferences will have to approve the settlement for it to be formally approved.
In House v. the NCAA, several former student-athletes who played before the 2021 agreement that allowed players to market their names, images, and likenesses (NIL) sued to recoup some of what they say they should have earned.
The settlement could resolve three antitrust lawsuits against the NCAA worth $20 billion.

Now every high school jock will have $$$ in his eyes expecting to get rich by age 19. I predict more serious injuries from cheap shots as players now have a huge incentives to eliminate competition.

College sports is getting swallowed up by greed. On another front, big conferences are pressuring the NCAA to expand the basketball tournament so that 9th and 10th place Big Ten and Southeast Conference teams receive bids. That will dilute the field and remove excitement from the tournament. College football playoff expansions are planned, again due to pressure from powerful conferences.

So colleges are now the minor leagues. It’s time to rethink things, folks! It’s time to think of sending kids to trade schools. Have you hired a carpenter lately. It’s $500 a day, for a contractor here in Massachusetts, if you can find one who does day work.
Hey, tell your kids this…
Working with your hands and brain is good work. Learn as you go, get paid, and work your way up. By the time their peers graduate college, they’ll have acquired large debts, and few employable job skills. That will set them back for years in terms of home ownership, family life, and what used to be called the American dream of upward mobility.

Sounds like a new chapter for Martin Anderson's 'Imposters In The Temple' dealing with the decaying moral and intellectual state of American colleges and universities. And he published that in 1992!

Many colleges have become sports teams with an associated school.

#2, Nick (Saban) saw the handwriting on the wall.
Let’s review: Obama and the communists started the ruination of healthcare, race relations, our military, and our general well being. And now greed is ruining college sports. There is less and less of our original America.

Good. Pass time. The NCAA used kids for profit for decades. A kid that wants to play college sports in the NCAA had to sign away their rights to make money off of products with their likeness sold by the NCAA. That was the first lawsuit that Walt Frazier and others got to the Supreme Joke that ruled that was illegal. All those Walt Frazier bobble head dolls and jerseys from his college days sold by the NCAA are now subject to royalties. Just like any other American in this country! Next, the restrain of trade issue recently address by the Supreme Joke. Why shouldn't a star in anything be able to make money off their likeness? Why do some feel that playing sports should limited financial opportunities that are open to every other student in the country? Why are athletes penalized for playing sports? Actors, artist, ballerinas writers, lesbian transgender illegals studies students can all make money from their likeness and not be penalized. The ability of an athlete to make money is limited to a few years. The vast majority will never make professional after college. Those that due the majority don't last 3 years. Why not allow people to use a god given talent to make money? If m making money opportunities are available to all Americans then why limited college athletes? Isn't the goal equal opportunity in this country?

Big time college football and basketball players are no longer students. They are highly paid staff. How long before an age discrimination lawsuit is filed so that you can have a long career playing on a college team and former NBA and NFL players can be hired by colleges. This could cause more difficulty for high school players to make it onto a college team.

The big rich college conferences just keep getting wealthier. Lacross was the last D-1 sport where lesser-known colleges could compete. Now that's been ruined too. Oh, there are still a couple of schools not in some huge conference with multi-billion-dollar contracts in the tournament, but they're there just to make it look like it's fair. The NCAA basketball tournament was like that as well twenty years ago or more.

It's about time. They have stolen from those athletes for decades while the NCAA, college sports administrators, and universities have gotten rich off of TV and licensing deals. Pay 'em all!

The end of any mention of student-athlete, as they are now simply paid employees who happen to play for a particular school.
Hope they also are paying their taxes properly.
