The U.N.'s top court, the International Court of Justice, on Friday ordered Israel to cease its military offensive in Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip, citing concerns over the safety of Palestinian civilians. "Israel must immediately halt its military offensive and any other action in the Rafah governorate which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part," ICJ President Nawaf Salam said. The court noted that conditions in Rafah had deteriorated further since the ICJ's last ruling in March, and that the provisional measures that the ICJ instructed at the time

An earthquake centered off the coast of Maine rattled the region Monday, causing light to moderate shaking in the state, as well as in parts of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the quake as a 3.8-magnitude temblor that struck shortly before 10:30 a.m. ET. The epicenter was off the coast of York Harbor, Maine, roughly 45 miles southwest of Portland. The National Weather Service has not issued any tsunami watches, warnings or advisories in the aftermath, and there have been no reports of fatalities or significant damage so far. US stocks were set for a steep selloff Monday morning after a surprise advancement from a Chinese artificial intelligence company, DeepSeek, threatened the aura of invincibility surrounding America’s technology industry. DeepSeek, a one-year-old startup, revealed a stunning capability: It presented a ChatGPT-like AI model called R1, which has all the familiar abilities, operating at a fraction of the cost of OpenAI’s, Google’s or Meta’s popular AI models. The company said it had spent just $5.6 million training its newest AI model, compared with the hundreds of millions or billions of dollars US companies spend on their AI technologies. The Wall Street Journal first reported the ultra-low cost.

In a Sunday night missive, the White House Office of Communications shared big news: the South American country of Colombia has succumbed to America’s demands and will not be subject to crippling sanctions unless it “fails to honor this agreement.” Sometimes, you have to cry uncle, and it appears that Colombian President Gustavo Petro did just that after acting defiant earlier Sunday by saying his country would refuse to take back its citizens who were in America illegally. The current president of the United States, however, is not named Joe Biden. After realizing who he was dealing with, Petro apparently even retweeted the White House’s statement:

Colombia refused two repatriation flights of illegal immigrants on Sunday, setting into motion one of the most savage actions by a U.S. president in recent memory. In what he thought was a power move, President Gustavo Petro told President Donald Trump that he would not allow any more of his citizens to be returned until a protocol for the "dignified treatment" of "migrants" was established. Trump didn't flinch, immediately announcing escalating tariffs and a complete shutdown of visas for those traveling from Colombia, including government officials. With that promise of retaliation made, left-wingers immediately set to claim the results would be catastrophic.

The New York Post reports on another immigration crackdown: Federal agents rounded up dozens of members of Tren de Aragua [Ed.: around fifty] in an overnight raid on a “makeshift nightclub” in Denver — after the vicious Venezuelan prison gang terrorized the city and the suburb of Aurora. The DEA said agents in Colorado interrupted an “invite-only party” where dozens of the gangbangers were cutting loose in Adams County — just outside Denver city limits. The busts netted cash, weapons, guns and drugs — including Tusi or “pink cocaine,” a powerful narcotic that the gang has played a major role in distributing across the US.
