signed a bill Wednesday to crack down on squatters taking over homes in the state.
A TikToker recently went viral for telling illegal migrants how to use squatters’ rights to steal Americans’ homes, and there have been reports of squatters in states like New York. DeSantis said this new legislation will speed up and simplify the process to remove squatters from homes during a press conference on the bill in Orlando. “We are putting an end to the squatters scam in Florida,” DeSantis said. “While other states are siding with the squatters, we are protecting property owners and punishing criminals looking to game the system.”

Sounds very good, we'll have to see how this works out in reality.

DeSantis is doing the right thing here. Illegals or anyone else just moving into an vacant property and saying it is theirs is gross BS

Just like other things. What part of ILLEGAL do you not understand?? If you don't own or rent the property and are not there with the permission of the owner, you are trespassing - THAT IS ILLEGAL.

West Virginia's deadbeat governor signed a similar bill into law earlier this week.

'Squatter's Rights' do not exist, except in the warped mind of the Leftists.... and not even THERE when on Martha's Vineyard or The Hamptons. (I recall the fine Democ'RATS got those NEWCOMERS kicked off the island in less than 24 hours!)
The term is a oxymoron.

I don't know if it's a law here in NV, but a friend's daughter sold her house and moved to another one. Squatters took over the empty house before it was sold, trashed it, and it took months to get the squatters out of the house. This was a few years ago under our former Dem Governor. The libs are really good at making sure the losers of the country come first. Another good thing DeSantis is doing in Florida.

Be careful when you advertise a house for sale or for rent.
May have to hire someone to keep an eye on the place.

It shouldn't require a law for people to have exclusive rights to a home they rightfully own. Anybody found camping out in my home is going to disappear.

Exactly #15. You rightfully own the property NO ONE squatting there should NOT be allowed to just stay there. Note: I don't care if you are an illegal alien criminal or a bum wearing brand new sneakers. Squat anywhere near my property and you'll be gone.

All these recent articles made me look up NC laws. It takes 20 years of uninterrupted squatting for them to get legal possession. But it's probably still a major headache before that.

My brother rents property in a tiny town in PA. Had renters who refused to leave after not paying rent. He removed their front door, they left.

Squaters HAVE NO RIGHTS, PERIOD! Come to Texas, the Castle Law will allow us Texans to "SOLVE" this problem with extreme prejudice!

Those who would like to steal your real estate do not need your personal information other than that which is already in the public record. I get calls several times a year, calling me by name, asking if I want to sell the property at this address. Every library, every county clerk, everywhere has this information on YOU.

There are several empty houses for sale in my neighborhood, several others with owners who only live there part time, and one rental that has been empty for six out of the last ten years. I've been thinking that they're ripe for squatters to move in, and won't be surprised if they do.
