Those brought up on classical piano knew that Eric Carmen had built his hit record "All by Myself" on Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in C-minor, Op. 18. What he did with The Raspberries, and solo, was part of the soundtrack of our youths, very nicely done. The music will live in our minds forever. Rest in peace, Eric.

House to vote on TikTok legislation this week 9 replies

It was a stark warning at the worldwide threats hearing in the Senate Monday. "China's aspirations for greater geopolitical power will probably become all the more apparent," said Avril Haines, director of national intelligence. Amid discussion of two brutal wars, came alarms about TikTok. Lawmakers are preparing to vote on the fate of the app. A bipartisan measure would force the app's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell TikTok or potentially be banned in U.S. app stores and web-hosting services. Critics of the bill, like the ACLU, call it "unconstitutional," saying the move would be a blow to free speech.

The leader of a church in Hartford, Connecticut, has pushed for the formation of an armed citizen patrol to supervise the streets. Cornell Lewis, a local activist, spearheaded the effort and launched 'Minister Cornell Lewis' Self-Defense Brigade. ' Archbishop Burke's solution to local violence has drawn criticism from Hartford's mayor, Arunan Arulampalam.

Feds say Texas National Guard is stopping

Texas governor Greg Abbott has turned the screw on the Biden administration by barring federal agents from one of the hottest flashpoints on the southern border. The White House was already demanding the Supreme Court allow it to rip down miles of razor wire the state government has strung across a 29-mile section of the border around Eagle Pass. Now the Texas National Guard has barred Border Patrol agents entirely from the 2.5-mile section of Shelby Park and defiantly stationed its military vehicles at the entrance to block access. 'That is not a decision that we agreed to,' Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas wrote as he reported the show of force on Facebook.

Top microchip makers are postponing their expansion into the U.S. and setting up shop in Israel and Russia due to equity caveats that are required for them to receive grants from the U.S. government. The Biden administration promised earlier this year that they would be handing out $39 billion in grants to encourage semiconductor manufacturing in the U.S. Shortly after the announcement however, Intel announced they would be holding off on their Columbus factory, while Samsung also delayed their facility in Texas. Despite the billions in subsidies, two experts believe the tech companies' decision to back out of building manufacturing facilities in the U.S. stems from the diversity, equity and inclusion policy.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) crafted a straightforward plan to end the catastrophic border crisis created by President Joe Biden. The Colorado Congresswoman introduced the Build the Wall and Deport Them All Act Friday. The bill codifies many Donald Trump-era policies and might be the perfect contrast to the border policies offered by Biden during his State of the Union address to the nation the night before. “On day one, the Biden Regime implemented their open-border policies that have destroyed countless American families and made our communities less safe,” Boebert told Breitbart News.

'Let me be clear: This image is not banned from VA facilities - and we will keep it in VA facilities,' McDonough said on Twitter. When pressed by DailyMail.com, the VA admitted the memo was sent out late last month but had since been rescinded. The memo instructed employees to 'promptly remove' the image and replace it with one deemed less offensive.

Israel boycotted Gaza ceasefire talks in Cairo on Sunday after Hamas rejected its demand for a complete list naming hostages that are still alive, an Israeli newspaper reported. A Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo for the talks, billed as a possible final hurdle before an agreement that would halt the fighting for six weeks. But by early evening there was no sign of the Israelis. 'There is no Israeli delegation in Cairo,' Ynet, the online version of Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, quoted Israeli officials as saying. 'Hamas refuses to provide clear answers and therefore there is no reason to dispatch the Israeli delegation.'

The city has been invaded by illegal immigrants from several countries and the mayor has ordered that they be sheltered in hotels, schools and senior residencies, displacing senior veterans, and resident citizens. Trust is foundational in relationships, whether between individuals or between individuals and institutions. A Gallup survey from last summer found, “Americans’ faith in major societal institutions hasn’t improved over the past year following a slump in public confidence in 2022.” (snip) Doctors, hospitals, and healthcare systems used to be held in high esteem, but no more. Aren’t these the “experts” in white coats? What happened to that trust? Why do only 1 in 3 Americans trust what was once a sacred healing profession? (snip) What is interesting is the partisan divide, with Democrats far more trusting in medical instructions than Republicans.

The fiscal year 2025 budget — which is highly unlikely to be approved by Congress — matches last year’s topline tax increase level and spends $300 billion more while purportedly cutting the federal deficit by $3 trillion over the next 10 years, the White House said on Monday.
