A judge ruled Thursday that a Black student who was suspended for months over his locs hairstyle was legally punished by the school district. Darryl George, 18, had been told by his school district in suburban Houston that he was breaking the rules about student appearance and dress code. State District Judge Chap Cain III ruled in favor of the Barbers Hill School District on Thursday, saying the district has not violated a new state law prohibiting race-based hair discrimination. The issue centered around the length of George's hair. George and his family say his hairstyle is protected by a state law known as the Texas Crown Act.

I wore my hair long in college.....now not so much to worry about. Some black hair styles can get VERY annoying to even be around. And so many look so nasty and dirty, you don't want to be close.

I say that about a lot of the football players. Long hanging hair outside the helmet could be dangerous if it gets tangle in something or someone. But, until it happens, they will allow it to be "inclusive".

I saw a picture of this young man when this first started. His hair was neat and clean and I actually really like his style. Because he kept it up in a type of braids around his head, I don't know how they even knew how long his hair was.

When I was n highschool in Texas...early 70's, I had to wear a short heir wig, because my hair was longer than "Code", so did around 100 other students. In defiance of those wig codes, we got nasty, crummy, cheep, off the shelf, womens wigs and chopped them short enough to pass...then seldom washed or combed them. Often left our ponytails hanging out the back...when accosted over it merely shrugged and said "Oops, didn't notice it" tuck it back in and on about our business. Some schools now are having to deal with students and parents that demand to be allowed to wear ridiculous Hair Extensions, similar to the "Predator" movies, not even their real hair....and fake finger nails several inches long. Facial tattoos on juveniles.

If it's natural hair, doesn't stink and doesn't interfere with the education process then it should be ok. If they can put it up in some reasonable way for extremely long hair that should be ok, too. Wigs, weaves, and other nonsense? Save it for the school play.

There was a hair code, I guess you'd call it, in the small town we lived in. One of my son's friends let his hair grow out. His mother approved. The school didn't. They sent him home and he couldn't go back until he cut his hair. He didn't cut it. The school expelled him. He later said if he'd known they were going to do that, he'd have cut it.

In a survey of more than 2,000 adults, 42% of Americans said they know at least one person who died due to a drug overdose. The data was released this week by the Rand Corporation. The American Journal of Public Health published its findings. Rates of exposure were significantly higher in New England and in the East South Central region (Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee) than in other parts of the nation, the Rand Corporation said. Additionally, 13% said that an overdose loss has disrupted their lives, and 4% said the death of a loved one had "a significant or devastating effect that they still feel."

Mornings in Northeastern Pennsylvania start on WILK-FM with ‘The Bob Cordaro Show’ described as “convincingly conservative, lovingly logical, proudly and passionately patriotic and reliably right”. And then eventually other conservatives, including Ben Shapiro, come on the air. But that may be about to change. WILK is one of a number of Pennsylvania stations owned by Audacy (five in Philadelphia alone), the second largest radio broadcaster in America and it, along with over 200 radio stations across the country, is about to fall into the hands of George Soros in time for the 2024 election..

In a dramatic turn of events, the South Florida Muslim Federation (SFMF), an umbrella group for South Florida’s radical Muslim outfits, has secured a new venue for its pro-Hamas conference, after being shut down by the Coral Springs Marriott for security concerns. The Sheraton Suites Fort Lauderdale at Cypress Creek – also a Marriott affiliate – has agreed to allow the group to use their premises to further the spread of hatred and incitement. The conference will feature many of the same extremists as the cancelled affair, including someone recently thrown off the Broward County School Board for promoting antisemitism.

But many felt the ad completely missed the Biblical point. [SNIP] The ad shows a total of twelve scenes of one individual washing another’s feet. Most appear to be white people doing the washing. None feature a minority washing a white man’s feet, and some even seem to be telling white Christians not to be bigoted. Israel's neighbors and key mediators warned Saturday of disaster and repercussions if its military launches a ground invasion in Gaza's southern city of Rafah, where Israel says remaining Hamas strongholds are located — along with over half the besieged territory's population. [SNIP] The announcement set off panic. More than half of Gaza's 2.3 million people are packed into Rafah, which borders Egypt. Many fled there after following Israeli evacuation orders that now cover two-thirds of the territory following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack that sparked the war. It's not clear where they could go next. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said any Israeli ground offensive on Rafah would have "disastrous consequences."
