BAKERSFIELD — Minutes before the vote that cost California‘s Rep. Kevin McCarthy his job as speaker of the House, three Republican voters lunching in his hometown cursed the scorched-earth politics in Washington.
The conservative women said McCarthy had been left with two bad choices in the days before his ouster: Risk a revolt from the hard right and cut a deal with Democrats to pass a funding bill, or acquiesce to the hard-liners and shut down the federal government, wrecking the economy. Ultimately, they thought, McCarthy did the right thing — and paid the price on Tuesday.

“Shutting down the government would wreck the economy?” Oh, give me a break! I love it when they say nonessential government workers would not get paid if there were a shut down. OK, if they are nonessential…I’ll let the readers finish the statement. I suggest everyone read Sundance’s latest post on this site and Don Surber’s column today. McCarthy had to go.

So McCarthy chose democrats over his party, aka the alleged "hard-liners"? Bump this three whatever voters in Bakersfield. What the heck ever. . .

At least Gaetz wasn't lying, which is more than McCarthy, the LA times and the morons quoted in the article.

The funding bill only means the government can continue to spend more than it has. Not passing only means live within your means but in order to force the continuation of spending they close everything when in fact nothing needs to close just live within their means.

Gaetz is a patriotic hero. He deserves the medal of freedom for what he is doing.

Evil,’ ‘delusional,’ ‘Benedict Arnold’ Grimly amusing seeing the LA Times reporterette using those adjectives to describe Matt Gaetz when in fact they are a perfect description of the LA Times and the rabid communist democrat communists who churn out all the vile Anti-American propaganda on a daily basis.
Project much Laura J. Nelson? Kudos to Matt Gaetz being a patriotic warrior against the evil Kevin McCarthy and the rest of the traitor republicans in the House. Keep up the great work.

When Republicans make hard choices, 99% of the time that choice screws their base.

"Evil" is the apt description for the new pro-abortion Senator chosen to represent your state, Ms. Londquist.

Wow, all of those GOP voters mentioned in this article, must be a Rinos . Don’t they realize Gaetz is the hero and McCarthy is the bad guy. I’ll bet the democrats will take over the House in the next election because they stick together. And Republicans are now divided over Gaetz v McCarthy, the “true” conservative and the “Rino.” My question is what plan does the 8 have to get something accomplished in the future?

“RINO” is such a fluid term. I’ve been here long enough to remember when some on this page called Donald Trump a RINO. Later, the term evolved to mean anyone who disagreed with President Trump. Now, it appears (on this page, at least), that it’s anyone who disagrees with Matt Gaetz, regardless of what President Trump might think. Ultimately, calling someone a RINO these days just means, “Shame on you for not agreeing with my obviously superior opinion.”

Just learning about hide-away offices was a benefit to a lot of Americans. I think we are learning the hard way about the lack of transparency in DC.

FTA: "Risk a revolt from the hard right and cut a deal with Democrats to pass a funding bill, or acquiesce to the hard-liners and shut down the federal government, wrecking the economy. "
Wrong! Shutting down the federal government will NOT wreck the economy! That's the Democrat's favorite scare tactic to freak out the consumers. Nonessential people and dept. will be closed. Most will be functioning w/o jeopardizing our economy. So I say let the government shut down. It'll be a great learning lesson for the government.
