Fifty-five Chinese sailors are feared dead after their nuclear submarine apparently got caught in a trap intended to ensnare British sub-surface vessels in the Yellow Sea.
According to a secret UK report the seamen died following a catastrophic failure of the submarine's oxygen systems which poisoned the crew.
The captain of the Chinese PLA Navy submarine '093-417' is understood to be among the deceased, as were 21 other officers. Officially, China has denied the incident took place. It also appears Beijing refused to request international assistance for its stricken submarine. A new Florida law is putting a target on the backs of child rapists in the state. The law, labeled HB 1297, was signed in May and took effect last Sunday, October 1. The Bill passed by a margin of 34-5 in the State Senate and 95-14 in the State House.
At the bill signing, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) said, “Unfortunately, in our society, we have very heinous sex crimes that are committed against children under the age of 12 years old. These are really the worst of the worst. The perpetrators of these crimes are often serial offenders.”
DeSantis added that he believed the Supreme Court’s Ruling in 2008
A recent Gallup poll found that Americans trust the GOP more than the Democrats on the economy by the largest margin in more than three decades. More than half of Americans, 53%, trust the GOP, compared to 39% who say they trust the Democrats. It wasn’t the only issue Republicans had a significant advantage on, either, but the economy tends to be one of the most, if not the most important issue that tips an election one way or another. There was a recent article from Newsweek that caught my eye. Entitled “Why Republicans’ War Against Taylor Swift Could Backfire,” it delves into an X (formerly Twitter) spat between The Federalist’s Sean Davis and left-wing activist Victor Shi. In response to an excellent piece by Mark Hemingway detailing the shallowness and vapidity, both technically and spiritually, of Swift’s music, Davis quipped, “Taylor Swift is dumb and her music sucks.” In response, Shi wrote, “Nothing says more about how little Republicans understand Gen Z than them now saying Taylor Swift is “dumb & her music sucks” after she registered more than 35,000 people to vote last week.

Donald Trump is not a great man. His rhetoric, which has included denunciations of those who have served in the military (while he dodged the draft five times with a limp excuse about bone spurs) ought to disgust all but those who are in complete denial of the danger he would pose to the Constitution and the country should he be re-elected president. Humility is not part of his vocabulary and words mean something, especially when they reflect character. In the latest "indictment" of Trump's virulent rhetoric, his former chief of staff, John Kelly, issued a statement in which he says he witnessed Trump insulting wounded veterans and others.

So this came out from Newsweek: The federal government believes that the threat of violence and major civil disturbances around the 2024 U.S. presidential election is so great that it has quietly created a new category of extremists that it seeks to track and counter: Donald Trump's army of MAGA followers.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, Florida Republican and psycho killer, led the smallest caucus in Congress this week across the aisle and into the lap of Democrats. He and his Suicide Caucus joined 208 Democrats to remove former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his post. What a day that was. So much for the so-called Hastert Rule that the Suicide Caucus claims to treasure so dearly. Requiring support from a majority of Republicans for floor action apparently applies only to Mr. McCarthy. Such slippery people. Annihilating the Hastert Rule is, you might say, the ultimate RINO move. These people are into making flippy-floppy, and doing it far, far, far better.

New York City is recording a 'dramatic' rise in tuberculosis cases, reports suggest — fueling fears the disease could resurge in the US.
Preliminary data shows 500 cases of tuberculosis (TB) have been diagnosed in the city so far this year — marking a 20 percent increase from this time last year.
Infections are also at their highest level in the city for this time of year in more than a decade, raising concerns the disease could spill into other areas of the country.
