But, I was told that Obamacare had solved every health insurance problem for eternity and utopia was upon us. Was that incorrect? Was I lied to?

The House on Friday approved the annual defense policy bill in an unusually partisan vote after it was loaded up with conservative amendments, marking a big win for Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) but raising new questions about how the package — which is dead on arrival in the Senate — will eventually become law. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed in a largely party-line 219-210 vote, with four Republicans opposing the measure and four Democrats supporting it — an atypical outcome for the annual legislation which routinely enjoys broad bipartisan support.

Why the long face, John Kerry? The former Secretary of State and current “Climate Czar” looked most unhappy yesterday as he appeared before a Congressional hearing. No wonder. It seems Kerry never expected to actually be questioned about his special role. Indeed he seems to have thought that the position given to him by the President not only entitled him to year-round perks, but to lifelong immunity from criticism. Kerry has been in his role since January 2021. Since that time his office has said that he reports simply and solely to the President. During his time in office he has jetted around the world to explain why other people shouldn’t use jets.

The FBI spied on two of then-GOP Rep. Devin Nunes’s staffers while they were investigating the bureau for misconduct related to Spygate. House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan sent FBI Director Christopher Wray a letter suggesting the Bureau retaliated against two of Nunes’s staffers for the House Intel’s oversight of the FBI. Recall, Nunes, who served as the House Intel Committee’s chairman from January 2015 to January 2019, vigorously investigated Russiagate. Nunes investigated the FBI’s role in Russiagate/Spygate and released a memo revealing Hillary Clinton’s fake dossier formed an essential part in obtaining FISA warrants to spy on Trump.

In the Trump era -- and in the media, it's still the Trump era -- there is no need to strain a mental muscle to prove journalists have a liberal bias. We find it everywhere. But there are still leftists who channel the spirit of Eric's "What Liberal Media?" Alterman and claim reporters tilt inescapably to the right. Claiming a liberal bias is somehow silly nonsense.Michael Tomasky -- who not too long ago was a reporter for Newsweek -- is now editor of The New Republic, and he claimed there's an appalling double standard in the political press. Media coverage of President Joe Biden is inherently unfair.
Why Trump Gets Underestimated 4 replies

Donald Trump doesn’t usually engender comparisons to FDR. But he’s in a strong position to win a major party’s presidential nomination for the third consecutive time, something that hasn’t been done since Roosevelt won the Democratic nod four times in a row from 1932 to 1944.There’s a big asterisk here, of course. In the post-22nd Amendment world, with a president limited to two terms, Trump only has a shot at a three-peat because he lost his reelection bid in 2020. If Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, who all won reelection, hadn’t been barred from running a third time, they all would probably have secured their party’s nomination again easily.

Ron DeSantis is trying to reassure donors and activists that his campaign only looks stalled. A confidential campaign memo obtained by NBC News lays out what the Florida governor’s presidential campaign sees as its path forward: focusing on the early states, refusing to give up on New Hampshire, not yet investing in Super Tuesday battlegrounds, zeroing in on DeSantis’ biography and sowing doubts about his competitors — particularly Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C. “While Super Tuesday is critically important, we will not dedicate resources to Super Tuesday that slow our momentum in New Hampshire,” the memo states. “We expect to revisit this investment in the Fall.”

A lot of politicians talk about free speech. But then you wonder if they genuinely even understand the concept. Particularly those on the liberal side of the aisle who seem all too cool with trying to shut down free speech on social media. The Biden team got shut down for their efforts at censorship in a landmark free speech case. But as we saw, they’re still trying to appeal that in court. They got smacked down again on Monday when the judge denied the Biden team’s motion to stay the injunction against the efforts at censorship pending the appeal.

The Biden administration announced Friday that it would forgive $39 billion in student loans for 804,000 borrowers, explaining it had pursued certain fixes to existing income-driven-repayment plans. “For far too long, borrowers fell through the cracks of a broken system that failed to keep accurate track of their progress towards forgiveness,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a written statement. These income-driven plans set a forgiveness threshold of 20 or 25 years. Borrowers must make payments that qualify over this period — payments that can be as low as $0 based on an individual’s income and family situation. “By fixing past administrative failures, we are ensuring everyone gets the forgiveness they deserve,

Last night, Fox News host Jessie Watters, like the rest of the nation, couldn’t stomach the United States Secret Service’s conclusion that it couldn’t figure out who brought cocaine into the White House. The law enforcement agency has the names of 500 individuals in or around the vestibule where the drugs were discovered, but supposedly no video evidence that can zero in on a person of interest. Due to the lack of a solid suspect, the agency is closing its investigation. Katie had more on this yesterday. She included the statement from the Secret Service:
Ron DeSantis Is the GOP’s Liz Warren 20 replies

Ron DeSantis’s once-vaunted presidential bid is in freefall. In the latest ominous sign for the Florida governor, Rupert Murdoch’s media empire appears to be distancing itself from his candidacy, with once-supportive outlets from Fox News and the New York Post to The Wall Street Journal highlighting his flagging poll numbers, his policy inconsistencies, and his cringeworthy attempts to connect with voters in key primary states. Should the DeSantis campaign fizzle out, comparisons with previous GOP stars-turned-flops like Jeb Bush, his predecessor in Tallahassee, are inevitable. But a more revealing analogy for DeSantis is to the most disappointing candidacy in the 2020 Democratic field: that of Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
