Why Trump Gets Underestimated

Original Article

Posted By: FlyRight, 7/14/2023 5:21:48 AM

Donald Trump doesn’t usually engender comparisons to FDR. But he’s in a strong position to win a major party’s presidential nomination for the third consecutive time, something that hasn’t been done since Roosevelt won the Democratic nod four times in a row from 1932 to 1944.There’s a big asterisk here, of course. In the post-22nd Amendment world, with a president limited to two terms, Trump only has a shot at a three-peat because he lost his reelection bid in 2020. If Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, who all won reelection, hadn’t been barred from running a third time, they all would probably have secured their party’s nomination again easily.

House Democrats are on a crusade to destroy the reputation of whistleblowers to save President Joe Biden and to run cover for those in the Justice Department and FBI who obstructed the investigation into the Bidens’ business dealings. But Republicans are starting to fight back. Kash Patel, who served as chief of staff to the acting secretary of defense under President Trump and as the senior counsel for the House Intelligence Committee under then-Rep. Devin Nunes, launched the counteroffensive on Wednesday when his attorney filed an ethics complaint against Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., and simultaneously sent a referral to the Department of Justice.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Saturday, offering support for the invaded country in its war with Russia while demonstrating his own nation’s cooperation with NATO. Yoon’s office said he traveled to Ukraine with his wife, Kim Keon Hee, following trips to Lithuania for a NATO summit and to Poland. It’s his first visit since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Yoon toured Bucha and Irpin, two small cities near Kyiv where bodies of civilians were found in the streets and mass graves after Russian troops retreated from the capital region last year.

The Florida governor and 2024 contender praised Kim Reynolds while campaigning in the early-voting state of Iowa. He called Trump's attacks on Reynolds "totally out of hand."Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Saturday he would consider Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds as a possible vice president pick. DeSantis was quick to praise Reynolds throughout his two-day Iowa swing, drawing frequent comparisons between her leadership in Iowa and his tenure in Florida. That's not a new strategy for the DeSantis campaign — but it took on new weight this weekend, as frontrunner Donald Trump on Monday attacked Reynolds for her decision to remain neutral in the caucuses.

When Joe Biden became president, America was on a solid footing, inflation was under control, we were energy independent, the price of gasoline was under $2.00, and things in America were great. Now most of that has been undone, and nothing is being done about it. This is like a nightmare in which you are terrified only to awake and be thankful it was only a dream. But the present nightmare is no dream, and things are only getting worse in America. Will someone please wake me from this nightmare? While Trump was president, nearly 500 miles of wall were built and immigration was controlled.

Newly unredacted emails reveal that former NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci was aware that risky gain-of-function research was occurring in Wuhan, China, prior to the emergence of COVID-19, even though he referred to this fact in public as a “conspiracy theory.” Earlier this week, House Republicans on the subcommittee investigating the origin of the Covid-19 virus released a trove of new documents related to their investigation. Some of the documents exposed the conversations of the scientists behind an influential paper claiming that the virus had emerged naturally in a Chinese “wet market.”

It was a sight to behold.Tucker point blank asked former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson how many Covid vaccines he has taken. “And how many Covid shots did you take, and how do you feel about it now?” Tucker asked Hutchinson. Asa Hutchinson didn’t want to answer the question so he tried to turn it around on Tucker. Bad idea.

The House on Friday approved the annual defense policy bill in an unusually partisan vote after it was loaded up with conservative amendments, marking a big win for Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) but raising new questions about how the package — which is dead on arrival in the Senate — will eventually become law. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed in a largely party-line 219-210 vote, with four Republicans opposing the measure and four Democrats supporting it — an atypical outcome for the annual legislation which routinely enjoys broad bipartisan support.

Why the long face, John Kerry? The former Secretary of State and current “Climate Czar” looked most unhappy yesterday as he appeared before a Congressional hearing. No wonder. It seems Kerry never expected to actually be questioned about his special role. Indeed he seems to have thought that the position given to him by the President not only entitled him to year-round perks, but to lifelong immunity from criticism. Kerry has been in his role since January 2021. Since that time his office has said that he reports simply and solely to the President. During his time in office he has jetted around the world to explain why other people shouldn’t use jets.

The Biden administration announced Friday that it would forgive $39 billion in student loans for 804,000 borrowers, explaining it had pursued certain fixes to existing income-driven-repayment plans. “For far too long, borrowers fell through the cracks of a broken system that failed to keep accurate track of their progress towards forgiveness,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a written statement. These income-driven plans set a forgiveness threshold of 20 or 25 years. Borrowers must make payments that qualify over this period — payments that can be as low as $0 based on an individual’s income and family situation. “By fixing past administrative failures, we are ensuring everyone gets the forgiveness they deserve,
