Second Trump indictment trips up 2024
GOP rivals

The indictment of former President Donald Trump by federal prosecutors is casting a long shadow over the 2024 Republican primary. But the field, widening in response to Trump and chief rival Gov. Ron DeSantis's (R-FL) perceived political weaknesses, appears unsure about how to deal with special counsel Jack Smith bringing criminal charges against Trump, at least over his handling of classified documents, as they simultaneously cast doubt over the Justice Department's independence."Hardcore" Trump voters can rationalize anything, so he will retain much of his support, according to former Republican staffer John Pitney, now a Claremont McKenna College politics professor. "But more indictments will hurt him at the margins,"

Tim Scott (and I don’t dislike him) should know that taking a position that indicting Trump is bad because indicting anyone without sufficient cause is bad, is as good as failing to support. DoJ is not persecuting “just anyone”. This is a former President, one who got the highest legal votes of any American politician and importantly for Sen Scott achieved the lowest unemployment for blacks in history.

I have frankly come around to NO TRUMP (1 term only) and NO BIDEN obviously. Go DeSantis and whatever animal the Dems can manage. Enough is enough already. Indict and jail them both.

Interesting that this hard core anti-Trump publication omitted the comments by Vivek Ramaswamy and Ron DeSantis who both strongly condemned the indictment. Instead we are treated to the rambling Asa Hutchinson, boring Pence and TDS afflicted Chris Christie.

How the Left Learned to Love the Espionage Act 1 reply

For a century after the Espionage Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by Democrat President Woodrow Wilson, our friends on the left have consistently denounced it as antithetical to democracy. They objected when it was used to jail socialist Eugene Debs in 1918 and continued to condemn the statute 55 years later when the Nixon administration deployed it against Daniel Ellsberg pursuant to the Pentagon Papers. As recently as 2013, the Guardian accused the Obama administration of McCarthyism for using this law to “persecute” whistleblower Edward Snowden.

It’s not every day that a federal judge asks attorneys representing the president if they’ve read their “1984.” Yet Judge Terry A. Doughty did just that last month, invoking the dystopian novel in questioning lawyers for President Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and other officials about their Orwellian conduct. These are the defendants in perhaps the most consequential First Amendment case you’ve never heard of. That case, Missouri v. Biden, has exposed arguably the most extensive mass-surveillance and mass-censorship regime in the history of mankind. In so doing, it has set in motion events that could lead to that regime’s collapse.

In the transactional mindset that governs former president Donald Trump's approach to everything, it makes sense he would seek to attack his leading rival for the Republican nomination for president, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, over the one thing that endeared the latter most to GOP voters: his record during the coronavirus pandemic. But rather than merely dismiss these attacks as a classic Trump tactic—lobbing fallacious claims to enrage opponents while blithely moving on to other attacks and never acknowledging where he has misspoken—the former president has highlighted something that ought to be discussed in 2024. During the pandemic, Republicans hailed DeSantis for being the slowest to lock down his state

James Comer is a hero. It would be a lot easier for him to let sleeping dogs lie when it comes to the Biden family corruption scandal and the even bigger scandal of the subsequent FBI/CIA coverup which kept American voters in the dark about one of the two presidential candidates in the 2020 election. But with the backing of Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Comer is right over the target with his House Oversight Committee investigations, and his confrontation with the FBI is both necessary and courageous. The FBI has become a law unto itself. Director Christopher Wray has been thumbing his nose at congressional

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland on Tuesday demanding documentation related to the FBI’s raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate last year. The raid — which took place on Aug. 8, 2022 — was reportedly aimed at retrieving “any document Trump ever saw, read, or created for the entirety of his four years as commander-in-chief.” Due to the unprecedented nature of the Biden DOJ conducting a raid on a former president and a potential 2024 rival, House Judiciary Republicans sent letters to Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and then-White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain demanding records

The confidential human source (CHS) behind the detailed allegations that then-Vice President Joe Biden agreed to accept money from a foreign national to affect policy decisions was reportedly “highly credible” and used by the FBI in multiple criminal investigations dating back to the Obama administration. Friday’s exclusive by Fox News provides further insight into Sen. Chuck Grassley’s focus on the FBI — as opposed to the Biden family — as the primary scandal in play. “We aren’t interested in whether or not the accusations against [then]-Vice President Biden are accurate,” Grassley said during an interview last week discussing FBI Director Christopher Wray’s refusal to comply

f you spend much time perusing the musings of political pundits you may have noticed the emergence of a subgenre of opinion writing that devotes itself to the following question: Why is President Biden so unpopular? A recent contribution to this growing body of work was offered a few days ago in Newsweek. Matt Robison, a former congressional staffer turned podcaster, laments that Biden boasts a long list of “massive achievements” yet somehow endures historically low approval ratings.
DeSantis Looks To Prove Trump Wrong in Iowa 6 replies

Ron DeSantis dove headfirst into campaign life this week, speaking to voters in five Iowa cities across a roughly 24-hour span. The Hawkeye-state blitz was the first foray of DeSantis’ presidential campaign following a glitch-marred virtual kickoff event last week and looked to establish some early momentum for the Florida governor ahead of Iowa’s crucial first-in-the-nation primary. Polls show that he needs it. Frontrunner Donald Trump maintains an imposing 22.4% lead over DeSantis in the current RealClearPolitics Average in Iowa, and he’s not shy about making sure people know it. When he’s not barraging DeSantis with taunts and insults online, Trump has a habit

Now that Ron DeSantis has entered the race for the GOP presidential nomination, former President Trump and many of his supporters have accused the Florida governor of disloyalty. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, for example, has suggested that DeSantis’ political ambitions have caused him to lose sight of “values like loyalty.” The basis for this claim is that DeSantis somehow owes Trump a 21st century version of feudal fealty because the latter endorsed him during Florida’s 2018 gubernatorial race. This kind of nonsense plays into the hands of the Democrats.

It took a few tries by Elon Musk yesterday afternoon for the Republican presidential field to officially firm up, even if it’s not necessarily complete. Ron DeSantis patiently waited for a series of technical failures to resolve before officially announcing his candidacy for the presidency, and delivered a short speech before fielding a Q&A with several figures. And while the rocky start no doubt frustrated DeSantis and Musk, the fact that well over 600,000 people simultaneously attempted to participate in the campaign launch speaks to a lot of interest in DeSantis, if not outright support. We may still see a few other candidates get into the race. Glenn Youngkin is signaling

The Sunday London Times, out today, has a long, long article about the origins of the covid-19 virus in the lab at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Its conclusions are unqualified: Scientists in Wuhan working alongside the Chinese military were combining the world’s most deadly coronaviruses to create a new mutant virus just as the pandemic began.
