The Sunday London Times, out today, has a long, long article about the origins of the covid-19 virus in the lab at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Until the far-off day when Chinese sources open up honestly, it will stand as definitive proof of not just the lab leak hypothesis, but the conclusion that covid-19 was a human creation. Its conclusions are unqualified: Scientists in Wuhan working alongside the Chinese military were combining the world’s most deadly coronaviruses to create a new mutant virus just as the pandemic began. Investigators who scrutinised top-secret intercepted communications and scientific research believe Chinese scientists were running a covert project of dangerous experiments

Pat Sajak, who has hosted the syndicated game show "Wheel of Fortune" for more than 40 years, announced in a tweet Monday night that he plans to step down next year. "Well, the time has come. The Federal Trade Commission plans to file in federal court to prevent Microsoft and Activision-Blizzard from closing their $69 billion merger, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The filing, which is not yet public, will ask the US District Court for the Northern District of California for a temporary restraining order that could keep the companies from consummating the acquisition while the FTC’s in-house court is deliberating on the deal.
The FTC sued Microsoft in the agency’s administrative court in December, challenging the deal as anticompetitive. Microsoft didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

JPMorgan Chase has reached an agreement to settle a lawsuit from victims of Jeffrey Epstein, the bank announced Monday.
The financial institution has yet to release details regarding the settlement agreement, which it described as an "agreement in principle." JPMorgan had been attempting to fend off the class action lawsuit for months.
"Settlement is in the best interests of all parties, especially the survivors who were the victims of Epstein’s terrible abuse," the bank and lawyers for the victims wrote in a joint statement. The statement did not reveal a settlement amount.

An Interstate-95 overpass in Philadelphia has collapsed after a massive tanker fire underneath.
Video showed the flames shooting up from the road with the collapsed overpass falling to the pavement below. Smoke has filled the area and could be seen from miles away.
The fire started around 6am Sunday between the exit for Academy Road and Cottoman Avenue. That is in the Tacony section of north Philadelphia. Fire crews are working to get the blaze under control, and there is no word on reported injuries.
