“From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.”
A new law in California will force those who make more money to pay more for their electricity.
Under the new rules, higher-income earners will pay seven times more than low-income earners.(Snip/Tweet) CNET reported:
If you live in California, how much you pay for electricity will soon be tied to much you earn. A state law passed last summer requires the California Public Utilities Commission, or CPUC, to approve a pricing structure that incorporates a flat fee with a sliding scale based on income.

What will it take before the citizens of California start wheeling out the guillotines?

Yikes! That's a troubling camel's nose sneaking in under the tent flaps. One bad law leads to a mountain of others.

Translation: "Let's see how many top earners we can force out of Kalifornia". The democrats in Cali are determined to make the entire state look like Detroit and they've been pretty successful so far. U-Haul must love the leftist politicians there.

Escape Krazyfornis if you can. You won't be able to sell your house so either just default on your loan or donate it to gov. Gruesome as a homeless shelter, but get out of Krazyfornia right now!

The pronoun "his" is used. Isn't that non woke? Last winter during the Artic blast some people in Tenn lost power during when the temperature was in the teens. Storms? Maybe. More likely the demand for electricity exceeded their ability to supply it So they just threw the switch and let us hillbillies shiver in the dark.

My bill has never in 24 years been as low as the highest value in the list. I am on my own well. All water is provided by electricity. If people are given a flat rate, what will be the reason to limit usage?

Excellent plan. Now we should expand it to donut shops, movie tickets, beer sales, and every other commercial product. Come on California, it's only fair and equitable to do so.

Incentive not to work. They don't have the money for this. Wait until they turn the power off. It's gonna get ugly.

OK - so say you’re paying according to income, not use - how will those who have purchased solar panels feel? Especially if they have paid outright for their panels and own them completely, all to reduce their power bills? Will their bills increase greatly if their income is high? What incentive is there to conserve energy?
What a future mess.

This raises an interesting question. How is Governor Moosalini going to get the income info about who's going to pay more or less on their electricity bills? Are the various agencies going to turn over privileged info on their citizens? What about bartering or selling on Craig's List? Californians will start selling and buying underground if the politicians start these Marxists policies.
Finally, if all of this is based on income, WHY WORK? This is Communism straight and forward!

They will find the unintended consequences when they discover lower income folks will simply now use much more than previously, and wealthy will curtail their use.

That sounds more like a tax than a payment for services. On a related subject, check out the Lava Ridge Wind project which will consist of 400 turbines up to 740 feet on 197,000 public (BLM) land in Idaho. Associated infrastructure will include new roads, powerlines, substations, maintenance facilities and battery storage facilities. The dirty little secret is that the power generated will go to California, or so I have heard but can't confirm. My Idaho Power bill just jumped 25%; coincidence?

If I were in California and in a higher income bracket and had to pay a higher fixed rate, you'd be sure that I would have every single light in the house on and the AC or heat on max cool/heat.
And to answer #19, they know your income from your CA tax returns.

I won't be urging anyone to get out of California over this. By this point there can't be too many sensible people left.
What remains are likely people you don't want moving to your state.

That means the people who already pay high prices for electricity will pay even higher, while those who pay little to nothing, well, nothing changes for them.

So if you drive an electric vehicle you could get a break charging your car, perhaps even free electricity. There will be no incentive to save electricity.
