Alexandra Capelouto was found slumped over on her bed by her mother, Christine, two days before Christmas.
The 20-year-old sociology major at Arizona State University, who had returned home to Temecula, California on her winter break in 2019, had taken what she thought was a batch of oxycodone to help her sleep.
Instead, it was fentanyl, the deadly drug destroying lives across America. The man who sold it to her, Brandon Michael McDowell, 23, was jailed for nine years in February.

There's a pill for everything, and millions of people happily swallowing them on the advice of their so-called doctors. Then there are the other class of miscreants and criminals who alter the meds with deadly additives.
Why would a 20 year-old need help sleeping? Such a sad and needless waste of her life.
I used to enjoy several women's magazine subscriptions but long ago let them expire. They had turned into little more than advertisement vehicles for prescription drugs. It was not uncommon for a drug's ad to be multiple pages. Our society is truly in peril.

Most residents of San Francisco are happy with the way things are in the city. Businesses are leaving, homeless druggies are everywhere and human excrement a common sight on sidewalks. This place is a Democrat heaven, you might say. Get rid of fentanyl, it will soon be replaced by something else where "...little cable cars climb halfway to the stars..."

Do you suppose this was the first time Alexandra had taken pills that she bought without knowing what they contained?
And she took a "batch" of what she thought was oxycodone pills. How many pills does it take to induce sleep plus oxy's are really for pain reduction. If you need a sleep aid the local drug store has a variety of over the counter potions that work just fine and you're not gonna wake up dead.

Oxycodone is a pain medication. If she was having trouble sleeping, she could have gone to the drug store and bought some Sominex or gotten a prescription for something like Trazodone which is not a narcotic. She made a stupid choice to buy something on the street instead.
#1, it’s not unusual for a 20 year old to have trouble sleeping. I’ve had trouble sleeping my entire life and have taken Trazodone for over 20 years.

The biggest mistake a person can make is to assume we live in a safe world. A person buys a drug off the street and thinks it's safe? Why? Who is looking out to make sure it is safe? Nobody. The same can be said for prescribed drugs. So many come with a long list of side effects up to and including death. It's a game of Russian roulette and most of us are playing it.

No doubt that ready availability and lack of condemnation of drugs is a factor.
But, I don't think anyone forced them to take these drugs.
Life is all about choices. Choosing to take illegal drugs...or even legalized dope is a very, very poor choice.

This is typical Libtard mentality, Leftist parents blaming Leftist policies for the deaths of their children when it is they that voted for them, the policies are not killing their children, they are!

If you have trouble falling asleep, you might try melatonin. Works for quite a number of people taken ~1 hr. before bed.

What kind of idiot would take bootleg oxycodone to help her sleep? Tylenol PM works for everybody else.
I have NO sympathy for anyone who takes street drugs. None. Life is tough; it’s tougher if you’re stupid.

I am not unsympathetic to this family's pain. I grew up in the 1960's. I have never taken illegal drugs, or drank alcohol or smoked anything. Those notions just seemed so strange and foreign to me. My idea of a good time was not consuming any substance that could make me stupid or perhaps wake up in a strange bathroom next to the toilet. Let alone killing me. Why would anyone buy some pill from an unknown source and pop it into their mouth? I agree we are a pill oriented society. I have a friend whose early 20 something daughter wanted to visit the doctor to get some medication. It seemed all her friends were on "something" and she was feeling left out. These kids have been told since day one "they are special" and should never have to experience pain, disappointment, failure, a challenge, any struggle that might rock their emotions was not acceptable. They have not been shown how to handle the ups and downs of life. I don't know what the answer is but when you see the homeless in these big cities spaced out and all these kids chowing down street pills and the bodies pile up it is sad and scary and I don't get it. Stupidity kills more people than anything else.

There's blame to go around in Cali. They voted for it. Newsom won the recall last year and they'd vote that way again.

Typical liberals, it's always somebody else's fault. I can't count the number of times one of these clueless parents have said that little Justin or Ashley thought they were taking X but it turned out to be Fentanyl. Why the hell were they taking X? 95% of the drug use in this country is not necessary and that includes legal and/or prescribed.
